Rosamonte Yerba Mate - Takes A Brother Back

Rosamonte Yerba MateDax: Rosamonte Yerba Mate takes me back to the serenity of Buenos Aires. Skating with all the homies, relaxing in the city, passin the ol' mate gourd around: enriching and nourishing. True Argentinian mate such as this cannot be repilcated. The spice is crisp, and the body is silky and unforgetable. Rosamonte was recommended by a great homey as being a daily drinker, and I concede. If you can't think of what tea to drink, go with yerba mate. If you are in Buenos Aires, stop in uno de sus supermercados and cop Rosamonte yerba mate.

Mike: Rosamante Yerba Mate is the first and probably last Rosamante tea review. As you may have noticed, Yerba Mate has been all the rage at the Tea Amigos and frankly I' getting a little sick of it. When Dax said that what were steeping today was Rosamante Yerba Mate I had a grimace on my face. However, once I actually obtained the steep I was delighted. It's not that Rosamante stands out from other mate teas in any particular way, it's that I reinvigorated my love for mate and mate tea reviews. Overall, Rosamante is just a conventional Yerba, good quality, not too bitter even on the oversteep, just what the South American witch doctor ordered.

Taragui Yerba Mate - Not What We Asked For

Taragui Yerba MateDax: Argentina has some amazing yerba mate tea, no doubt, yet this special delivery by the name of Taragui Mate Cocido was not up to the standards that my palate set for steepability.  Yerba Mate is usually the go-to steep for me.  I wouldn't say that this Taragui blend isn't a great default setting, but something is missing.  This yerba mate lacked vividness, the mate itself was clean, but had a more grassy feel.  The problem here was the teabag.  Loose yerba mate is how the steep should be steeped, in your favorite steeparatus of course.  Mate in a teabag just isn't going to be on the same level.  Even this Taragui yerba mate from Buenos Aires isn't doing the trick.  If you don't know, now you know.

Rating: B-

Mike: Taragui Yerba Mate is new to the Tea Amigos roster and I don't have to be too worried about what I say about it because I'm fittin' to trade this sucker for a quality power forward. This is probably the first and last Taragui tea we will be doing, not because I will it this way but because it comes straight out the land of the tango. As far as Yerba Mate goes, the quality here is sub-par. A somewhat stale, dull taste with strange flavors that don't belong. Feels almost contaminated like it was stored in a butcher shop. No smokey mesquitability to speak of either.

Cruz de Malta Yerba Mate - Fat Sack of Healthy Living

Cruz de Malta Yerba MateDax: So one of my homies in Argentina recommended a few of his favorite Yerba Mate teas for the Tea Amigos to get down with.  First up is the Cruz de Malta Yerba.  Of course, I had my first preview of this loose leaf yerba in my traditional mate gourd, but since few of you are able to obtain such a steeparatus at the moment, I steeped it using standard protocol.  I like how these Yerba Mates come in fat packs, similar to flour.  The more the merrier.  Also, the tastes is powerful and gives you the feeling as if you are really living.  The herbs are quite small, so take precaution in your steep.  Overall this is a fine mate that reminds me of being below the equator.

Mike: His Steepness himself has returned from Argentina, the Yerba Mate capital of the world. It would only be fitting for Dax to bring us back a couple Yerba Mate gourds as well as Cruz de Malta Yerba Mate to steep-a-thon within. As you know I'm a teasan through and through, a jack of all teas of all grades but unfortunately the Yerba Mates I've had have all come from a bag. No loose Yerba Mate for me until now.
Dax prepped the Crux de Malta right, the way native Argentines have been doing it for years. Learn all about it in his How to Prepare Yerba Mate teasan training (coming soon). Anyway I'm going to tell you like it is. First steep made me weep a little bit because this Yerba Mate tea does not pass the oversteep challenge. Your first few sips will send you on a flavor trip...too much of it. But with some time the flavor becomes fragrant and interesting, nuanced, with a really not-so-subtle burst of parilla-roasted mesquitability. Also of note is that I used a bombilla to drink it out of the gourd for the first time. And this is how the first Cruz de Malta review appeared on Tea Amigos. If you want to know more about Yerba Mate rituals, the bombilla, the gourd, and whatnot, don't forget to read Dax's How to Drink Yerba Mate article.

Good Earth Black Tea with Mate - Mate Mate Good

Good Earth Mate CitrusDax: Good Earth Mate Citrus tea was a obtained by the homey hookup.  Big ups to @lgdrew for the ill steep.  Good Earth Tea is a new tea brand to our tea reviews, and man I hope I come across more of their tools.  They speak about how this mate tea is invigorating, and they weren't lying.  Good Earth Mate Tea had me ready for 2012; I seriously felt like I could outrun the apocalypse barefoot.  Forget the energy drinks, mate and citrus tea is where it's at. The ingredients taste legit like a Taylors of Harrogate mixed with a good Bigelow Tea.  Lovely stuff, Good Earth, lovely stuff.

Rating: A

Mike: I have no idea where Dax picks up these skeezer-tea brands like Good Earth tea. He never fails to bring some brand of tea from left field like Pickwick tea and Sierra Brand tea among others. Not that I'm hating, I just wanted you all to know that when you see something random like this, it means Dax was on the teasan junket.
Anyway so what's the deal with Good Earth Energizing Black Tea? Well first off, props on the uniqueability because this is the first tea we've reviewed that is a combination of black tea and yerba mate. How fire is that? To be honest with you, not very. I think the two herbs clash pretty hard and make for a funky flavor combination. It just feels like this Yerba Mate tea is just trying to accomplish too many things simultaneously, like juggling cellist. Worth the shot for uniqueness though.

Mighty Leaf Rainforest Mate - Connect with the Yerba In You

Mighty Leaf Rainforest MateDax: It's really hard to beat someone at their own game, and Mighty Leaf Tea is racketeering this junket with the best of em. Mighty Leaf Rainforest Mate is another example that proves tha better ingredients equals better tea. I mean just look at a Mighty Leaf teabag and observe the careful stitching that holds the herbal infusion in place. Marvelous. The yerba mate is splendid, as I taste just a hint of apple and some unnamed luscious spice. It just makes you feel whole again, please steep this mate tea masterpiece. It's got the Amazon written all over it.

Rating: A+

Mike: Mighty Leaf Rainforest Mate is the Yerba Mate you were born to drink. Tender is the flavor you savor when you sip the drip from the hip they call Mighty Leaf Rainforest Mate. The beverage is sweet and flavorful like I said but it is not perfect. The Yerba Mate, a South American herb with a penchant for smooth taste and optimum health, is ovrshadowed just slightly by the rainforest flavorings or hhhwhatever Mighty Leaf managed to overdose us with. Overall, fragrant and flavorful and definitely worth multiple steeps well beyond the daily drinker lifespan.

Allegro Tropical Yerba Mate Tea - Crank Dat Frankenstein

Allegro Tea ReviewMike: Allegro Tropical Yerba Mate is some new tea Dax picked up at Whole Foods. We have yet to do any Allegro Tea Reviews but there's a first time for a tea in it's prime. We haven't reviewed very many Yerba Mate tea either. Anyway, I can't say the usual about this organic tea. It's not poppin, just average. Maybe I don't yet have an affinity for Yerba Mate or maybe I oversteeped it, or maybe this one from Allegro tea just ain't that good. Try for yourself; they're giving 'em out for free at Whole Foods.

Rating: C+

Dax: During a business meeting at Whole Foods, I stumbled upon some generic looking teas by the name of Allegro. I soon found out that they were free samples, so I copped the set for me and the homey to get our tea ratings on. First up is their tropical yerba mate. Tropical is the key word here, because this puppy is as sweet as can be. Allegro tea didn't skimp on the yerba either, making this tea a luxurious steep. Generic packaging never steeped so good. I'm a fan.  Mike quit hatin.

Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint Tea - Earth in a Teacup

Nature's Best Yerba MateDax: After a long, fierce battle with my pant pockets, Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint tea finally reached my teacup. Lucky for it, I was much overdue for some mate. Nature's Best comes extra strength with their flavorful mate mint tea. They truly captured that wonderful flavor that can only be desribed as "Earth". TeaAmigos fans know that I need some mint in my life very frequently, and there is the slightest hint in the mix, just lounging. I was very impressed, to say the least. Grab this one, folks.

Mike: Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint Tea is an organic tea that marks many milestones for myself and Dax here at Tea Amigos. First, this is a new tea brand! We have yet to do any Nature's Best tea reviews. Second, this is our first Yerba Mate tea review. So how is it? Great! It's a unique blend of 3 plants: tea (green), yerba mate (Argentinian Plant), and a dash of mint. The three create a symphony that crescendos in your mouth with the passion of Bach and the intensity of Beethoven. At first I was not fond of it because I thought I entered chamomile country but that was an outright lie perpetuated by my tongue. The one downfall I see is the absence of a flavorful green tea taste. Most semblance of it is blown out of the water by the Yerba and mint tea. Nevertheless, enjoyable.
