Ten Ren Pouchong Tea - Classics Wrapped and Redefined

Mike: Tenren Pouchong tea is a very light yet flavorful oolong tea. This is the point in time where I would normally go on an irrelevant tangent, allude to something inapplicable, or offer a silly analogy whose players are suspect. Not this time. I don't really have much to say except that this is a good tea. Freshness is awarded to those teas that enter with maximum steepability and it definitely pertains to this Pouchong Tea. What the hell is Pouchong? A teasan like me should know...

Rating: B+

Dax: With a name like Pouchong, you better come correct with the flavor.  Ten Ren Pouchong Tea does just that.  TenRen Tea puts the packaging into play and laced us with some quality "wrapped" tea.  I say this because Pouchong literally means "the wrapped kind" referring to the way they dry Pouchong tea leaves.  Regardless, they got is right first try, giving off a succulent melon aroma and light oolong tea taste.  Not so much grassy as it is crisp and oolongy, but Ten Ren Tea still hit it good.  Could have had a longer lasting flavor, as my final sips were a bit light.

TenRen Oolong Tea - Pre-Grammy Stardom

TenRen Oolong TeaDax: One calm, early morning I grabbed this oolong tea from TenRen and guess what? I got to steepin. What I usually like about Ten Ren is tha thier chineses teas have a really traditonal feel to them. Not that I'm Chinese or anything, you just feel like this is legit. Ten Ren oolong tea is very grassy, and Mike was right, it can get oversteeped with quickness. TenRen should have put that on the package. The flavor is pretty regular with a hint of extra grassy, but it doesn't have the cack-like addictive taste as Twining's China oolong. Still a decent steep.

Rating: B

Mike: Ten Ren Oolong Tea comes in a pretty light brown package with a neat gold design. Aesthetic packaging is a plus. Other than that, upon entry into oral canal, Ten Ren Oolong behaves much like most Oolong teas. A neat grassiness is certainly a unique feature but not one necessarily worth the hefty Tenren pricetag. Avoid oversteeping this oolong tea from Tenren because it can get a bit bitter. Steep for the love, steep for the game.

TenRen Hibiscus Tea - The Hibiscus You Want

TenRen Hibiscus TeaDax: Hibiscus tea is similar to herbal tea, yet has a particular sweetness to it when used alone.  TenRen went out on this limb to bring their version of the blend to our selection of tea reviews.  The story is as follows.  TenRen Hibiscus Spice starts out as regularly scheduled programming, but then kicks into a special news alert concerning savory spices running rampant around in your mouth.  Ten Ren tapped into a great thing with this suculent aftertaste that I have yet to experience in a Hibiscus tea.  Normal quake, great aftershock.

Rating: B+

Mike: Ten Ren Hibiscus Tea is an herbal tea whose hibiscus flavor knows no bounds. I don't have an ingredients list but I suspect there is only one: Hibiscus. This being said, the hibiscus herb they use is truly fresh and second to none. However, I got to ask, who loves the tart, pseudo sweet taste of hibiscus tea? I do not mind it, as I'm generally pretty neutral-negative toward herbal teas. I wouldn't drink it on a daily basis but if it is hibiscus tea you are looking for, definitely consider this one from Ten Ren tea.

TenRen Green Tea - A "Budget"  Vacation

TenRen Green TeaDax: I've come to the conclusion that not all Chinese green teas are instant winners.  Usually I flock to teas like this Ten Ren green tea because of their roots in the history of all things teasan.  This was a diferent game here.  Tenren green tea isn't bad by any means, yet it lacks the greenery I demand in Chinese tea.  Also, some sort of rotten twang was left in my mouth upon swallowing.  I asked if I could get a witness, and Mike said he been done known about it.  Watch for the aftertaste.

Rating: B-

Mike: Tenren green tea does not kill the game, unfortunately. The Ten Ren black tea featured in a previous tea reviews post killed the game but not its green tea counterpart. While the former had nuance and flavor, Ten Ren Green Tea offered a lackluster performance. I would equate it to a basketball player on a breakaway laying the ball in the hoop instead of reverse dunking the sucker in. Nothing subtle about it, this Tenren tea offers a similar taste to what any standard green tea has to offer with a little more umph in the back of the throat. Save your money and go with a less expensive green tea.

Ten Ren Chinese Black Tea - Slap in the Face Fresh

Ten Ren Black TeaDax: TenRen was discovered during a routine trip to Chinatown. The Wifey and I were looking for a baby tortuga and of course I needed to stop by the tea emporium. Tenren black tea was a skilled purchase that I couldnt be happier with. The Chinese black tea has your standard aroma, and gives high quality taste very stealth-like. The Metal Gear approach was warmly welcomed by Mike and I, as we both sipped the teacup to completion. The most noted characteristic of this black tea is its extended-steepability. I caught Mike sleeping and oversteepin, yet the Tenren tea did not get bitter. Looking forward to more Tenren tea reviews.

Rating: A

Mike: Ten Ren Tea brings it hard with it's goto black tea. Ten Ren black tea features aromatic, superbly complicated new age sensations whose freshness can only be matched by ocean fury. If the Greeks had a tea God, he might dispense Ten Ren Black Tea to his chosen few. I'm not saying this is the best tea of all time or anything like that, but it is instantly apparent post-first sip that you're not dealing with some amateur brew for the weak of taste. I'm excited to tackle the other TenRen in the pack we got, but based on this black tea, I'm sure the other Ten Ren Tea Reviews will crack skulls.
