Mighty Leaf Mint Marrekesh - Somebody Got Caught Slippin

Mike: The Greeks had their Gods sippin' tea atop mount Olympus. Question: where do the tea Gods themselves drink the godly beverage? Answer: Mount Tiznit.
Mighty Leaf Marrakesh Mint Green Tea is a product of decent green tea with a blast of mint picked from Mount Tiznit. Unfortunately the Gods at this mountain gave Mighty Leaf some wack mint, or the teasans over there got overexcited and added too much of it. I've never been big on mint tea in general so my view is biased. Hate to do it to a brand as superb as Mighty Leaf Tea, but this is your lowest rating yet.

Rating: C+

Dax: The teasan inside of me died a little bit as I ripped open the artisan-crafted teabag holding Mighty Leaf Mint Marrakesh Green Tea, but steep and share (sns) was the program today. All the time and effort used to stitch the Mighty Leaf tea sachets does not go unnoticed, this mint tea was no different. Now usually Mighty Leaf hits the bullseye blindfolded, but today the arrows were off. This Mighty Leaf mint tea had no core values, like a 6 year old cursing out the Fedex guy. The green tea was hardly noticed, and the mint was normal. Quality, but normal.

Naivetea Mint Oolong - Teasan's Delight x 2

Naivetea Mint Oolong TeaDax: When Naivetea showed up at TeaAmigos HQ, I instantly knew that this was going to be a hit.  Naivetea Mint Oolong is a prime example of how rich and delightful a legit oolong tea can be.  What starts as a beautiful, fragrance-infused mint loose tea, soon becomes large leaves of rich freshness, just waiting for a resteep.  Naivetea Mint Oolong tea is not only heralded by my taste buds, it is now demanded when mint oolong tea is desired.  Now I can't say this is 5 stars across the board, and this is solely because the oolong tea taste that I am quite a fan for, was lacking.  Throw some more oo in there and this is 100% official like a referee whistle.

Rating: A

Mike: Naivetea comes at you hard with flavor and equally hard with the smoothness. The good people at Naivetea sent us a nice sampler pack of their teas with a personal letter and we love them for it. Naivetea doesn't waste time with green, black, or white teas. They go straight for the elite and focus solely on oolong tea. They are definitely teasans of the oolong tea hustle and we respect that.
I had the pleasure of steeping Naivetea Mint Oolong and I was overcome with a flavor that can only be wrought by a horde of Chinese soldiers from the Ming dynasty. Jet Li and Jackie Chan took turns flying side kicking my tongue with the mintiness. This mint tea, or more correctly, mint oolong tea has perhaps the sharpest flavor of mint. Bright yellow steep-drip and a hearty smell strong enough to clear nostrils if need be. Overall, a powerful steep.

Octavia Winter Mint Red Tea - Close To The Top Shelf

Octavia Winter Red TeaDax: Octavia Winter Red Tea was a nice little addition to the Octavia Tea line, featuring spectacular roobios tea flavor in a loose leaf smash up.  If you aren't familiar, roobios usually goes by the name red tea, and is often interchanged.  Don't get this Octavia red tea twisted, as it has a mint tea element that lights up this brew like a skate spot on any given night in Cali.  The quality of this holiday special was extra fire, but it didn't hit me with too many different flavors.  Double Koi rooibos had a unique, cognac taste.  This guy was kind of regular.  Tasty, but the rooibos was not as special as I would have liked.

Rating: B+

Mike: When you are dealing with Octavia Winter Mint Red Tea, remember to never look it in the eyes. Treat it like you would the emperor. Never turn your back toward it. Always address this Octavia Rooibos tea as "your steepness." makes sure your head is always below that of the Octavia Winter Mint Red Tea. This may require a really tall shelf to store it.  I believe this is either the best rooibos tea I have drank or tied for the best. There are a lot of quality contenders in the African rooibos field but this one from Octavia is likely the emperor. Delicious rich rooibos flavor and a drop of mint make this one cream of the crop. I recommed copping.

Grandessa Signature Fresh Mint Tea - The Long Line Was Worth It

Grandessa Signature Fresh Mint TeaMike: Grandessa Fresh Mint Pure Assam tea is a teasan tool necessary in every teasan's toolkit. Like a hammer to a carpenter, a beekeeper suit to a keeper of bees, or a Lady Gaga track to a top 40 DJ, today's teasan has no excuse not to possess this Grandessa teasan tool. This mint tea from Grandessa (Aldi Brand) has the right concentration of mint to black tea which is what makes this mint concoction part of the taste bud liberation movement. Devoted TA readers will probably know my general aversion to mint teas and the mint tea genre as a whole but I got to give this Grandessa Mint tea the love it deserves. It has its flaws though. The first is that the tea satchel has no pouch so the oversteep is a threat unless you got a fork to withdraw said tea apparatus from the cup. Second, the black tea base is slightly lacking in flavor but this is made up by the quality of the mint used which is second to none. Overall, you can steep on it.

Rating: A-

Dax: Another Aldi creation comes to my palate by the name of Grandessa signature fresh mint tea. Now something that comes to my mind when I think of these store branded treasures is the word "signature". Who signed off on this? Wally-world follows the same notion in their stock brands. Anyways, this mint tea is plenty tasty and is worth the couple of bucks I spent on it. The mint is strong and the assam tea base is cracking to say the least. My only beef is the sachet. Grandessa, please put something to hold the teabag to the cup, I hate burning my fingertips trying to get my double pump dunk on.

Tazo Refresh Tea - Check Yo Steep Before You Wreck Yo Steep

Mike: True teasans know what's in their steep. It's what being a teasan is all about. This is why when I was confronted Tazo Refresh Mint tea, I was taken aback momentarily by the ingredients. This mint tea from Tazo has something called tarragon, a new ingredient in the teasan's arsenal. For the most part, Tazo's mint tea tastes much like most mint teas you will uncover in your travels. Toward the end, closer to the oversteep, I felt a new sensation sweeping my tongue's imagination. It's all about the tarragon baby. A strange, slightly bitter herbal taste, but have I savored this flavor prior to this Tazo tea steep. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. It's the same taste when you drink detox tea in haste. Overall not bad, tastes kind of like a detox mint tea.

Rating: B

Dax: Seeing as this tea is called Tazo Refresh, and it is packaged in a green tea sachet, I steeped without any desire nor thought of reading the ingredients.  Tazo tea is generally flavorful and potent, with minimal side effects, so I wasn't thinking about drowsiness, nausea, migraines, suicidal thoughts, or chemical dependency.  Tazo Refresh green tea was looking good in my teacup, but I sensed a little something off with this green tea.  I found out that mint tea had made a guest appearance.  The situation as a whole was appreciated, but that first sip almost made me sick.  Not that this mint medley (no reference to Bigelow Mint Medley) was bad, I just wasn't expecting it at all.  I was in "steep shock".  Read prior to steep, yet enjoy.

Mighy Leaf Chocolate Mint Truffle - So Good, It's Already Gone

Mighty Leaf Chocolate TeaMike: Mighty Leaf Chocolate Mint Truffle tea is your ticket to flavor country. You don't need to search for airfare tickets at Travelocity, Expedia, or Priceline. Besides, if you told them you wanted to book a hotel in flavor country they would think you're an idiot. But in the world of teasans, such a request is neither strange nor undesirable. Mighty Leaf Tea takes you there. The mildly sweet intermingle of flavor interacts ever so gently with your tongue. A tinge of green tea is quickly replaced by a boldly refreshing mint which yields to a light chocolate rendition of Beethoven's 5th. Nothing like a concert in flavor country.

Rating: A

Dax: When life rains on you, filter it and steep some Mighty Leaf Chocolate Mint Truffle. A divine smelling concoction, Mighty Leaf Chocolate tea with mint combines the best of both worlds into a delightful dessert tea.  Aromatic, flavorful, and uplifting are how I would desribe this brew, as a solemn Chicago day was elevated a few notches after steepage.  Mighty Leaf came correct once again with their chocolate mint tea, and I fully recommend it if you are having a low day and need some herbal enlightenment in beverage form.  You made me smile Might Leaf, thanks.

Bigelow Plantation Mint - Sketchy Name, Sketchy Mint Tea

Bigelow Plantation MintDax: A mint tea with a suspect name, Bigelow Plantation Mint tea is an underachiever in my book.  It totally had my expectations extra high with its Doublemint gum smelling teabag.  Unfortunately it has a tenth-mint taste.  Mint tea reviews are supposed to be wonderful and enjoyable, yet this Bigelow Tea had me struck.  On a positive note, the black tea itself is smooth and characteristic of Bigelow, but that spearmint ingredient is lacking on the real.

Rating: C

Mike: Bigelow Plantation Mint Tea is a hard pill for me to swallow because as faithful TA readers know, the gifted teasan, Michael Kofman, is not particularly fond of mint tea. However, this Bigelow Mint Tea is spectacular. The base black tea is rich with flavor, and wait till the mint leaf hits your tongue. The first wave of mint is mild but there's an interesting effect that occurs at this juncture in your tea tasting experience. A second wave of mint comes right after the first, this time, a tidal wave. Bigelow tea did something sinister to make their Bigelow Plantation Mint this good.

Organic and Pure White Tea with Peppermint - Gentle and Nourishing

Organic and Pure TeaDax: Now Organic and Pure, by definition, is a no guilt organic tea the usually makes me feel on point no matter the circumstances.  I scooped up this Organic and Pure White Tea with Peppermint after a long skate session in the city.  Clearly I need a cool down white tea with rejuvenating anti-oxidants.  This peppermint white tea investment was a blue chip success.  Organic & Pure really makes some healthy tasting tea, and this is no exception.  The mint tea flavor was not very potent, but its lack of black tea already let me know what to expect.  The white tea is crisp, reminiscent of their white tea with lemongrass in our Best Teas devotionals.  Check this out and feel good about yourself for not choosing Faygo.

Rating: B+

Mike: Sometimes flavors clash.  That's what I feel with this Organic and Pure White Tea with Peppermint.  Since I've never been a big peppermint tea aficionado, I might have a bias against them.  In this white tea, the peppermint completely overpowers the flavor.  In general I'd think the white tea + peppermint blend would be a poor mixological choice because white tea is infamous for its weaker, more gentle flavor.  In order to make this flavored tea work, Organic and Pure should have reduced their peppermint content to a mere dash, just to add some spice.  Organic and Pure, you listening?  Hire me as your tea consultant!

Trader Joe's Mint Melange Tea - Ghost Dog Approved

Dax: A little TeaAmigos fact: Mike and I are die-hard spicy food freaks. Trader Joe's Mint Melange tea was chosen post jalapeno breath, since mint tea is the only beverage that can ease the palate, even if the tea itself is not cold. Fortunately for Trader Joes tea, they caught me in a time of need. The flavor is full and bold, the mint is not heavily exaggerated, and my burning mouth is feeling like cliff jumping in Alaska. Too bad Mike will probably hate on this because of his mint tea complex.

Rating: A+

Mike: Trader Joe's Mint Melange tea conjurs psychadelic sensations, blissful memories, and tales of the lost Lenore (quoth the raven, nevermore). What I mean is that unlike many of the teas we review, I would not say that this mint tea from Trader Joe's is the feel good tea of the summer, fun for the whole family, or edge of your seat thrill ride. This Trader Joe's tea is instead contemplative, more like a French noir flick with a guy standing smoking a cigarette in black and white. He puts it out and the screen goes to black. Does what I just said tell you anything about the tea? Probably not. Do I give a damn? Notatall.

Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint Tea - Earth in a Teacup

Nature's Best Yerba MateDax: After a long, fierce battle with my pant pockets, Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint tea finally reached my teacup. Lucky for it, I was much overdue for some mate. Nature's Best comes extra strength with their flavorful mate mint tea. They truly captured that wonderful flavor that can only be desribed as "Earth". TeaAmigos fans know that I need some mint in my life very frequently, and there is the slightest hint in the mix, just lounging. I was very impressed, to say the least. Grab this one, folks.

Rating: A

Mike: Nature's Best Yerba Mate Mint Tea is an organic tea that marks many milestones for myself and Dax here at Tea Amigos. First, this is a new tea brand! We have yet to do any Nature's Best tea reviews. Second, this is our first Yerba Mate tea review. So how is it? Great! It's a unique blend of 3 plants: tea (green), yerba mate (Argentinian Plant), and a dash of mint. The three create a symphony that crescendos in your mouth with the passion of Bach and the intensity of Beethoven. At first I was not fond of it because I thought I entered chamomile country but that was an outright lie perpetuated by my tongue. The one downfall I see is the absence of a flavorful green tea taste. Most semblance of it is blown out of the water by the Yerba and mint tea. Nevertheless, enjoyable.

Bigelow Green Tea with Mint - Little of This, Little of That

Bigelow Green Tea with MintDax: Mmmm Bigelow Tea... Their vast selection is always interesting to sample. Today’s catch brought in their Green Tea with Mint. A very pleasant and mild aroma is generated at first steep, clearly paving the way for a great tasting tea. The green tea flavor is slightly more noticeable than the mint, and the overall smoothness is clearly noticeable.  Bigelow did a fine job on their Green Tea with Mint, the lasting flavor makes your mouth as comfortable as a Sunday in pajamas. The entire opposite of lackluster, big ups Bigelow.

Rating: A

Mike: A big shout out to Bigelow Tea whose blog recently recognized Tea Amigo’s existence. We’re moving up the tea blog totem pole! Anyway, so back to Bigelow tea reviews. The ingredients are simple enough: green tea and mint leaves. The secret to this tea’s delicious taste is steepability. Not to violate a famous trademarked slogan from a famous beer or anything. No, the true secret is the balance they struck between the mint and green teaBigelow Tea chose perhaps a slightly mintier ratio than I would have chosen myself, but the result is nevertheless delicious. Your journey begins with a sweetened cooling sensation and the finish is that of lightly steeped tea. Overall, a highly enjoyable tea that I would drink as a stand-alone.

Intelligentsia Morrocan Mint Tea - Flavor of Love.

Mike: Intelligentsia tea has become a recent sensation at Tea Amigos and for good reason. Intelligentsia Moroccan Mint is the 2nd Intelligentsia tea review featured here. I already know Dax is going to love it because he likes mint tea so the judgement really lies on me. Yay or nay?

A big fat yay.

Everyone and their mother knows that I like to sleep in when mint tea reviews come around. Just flip on any major news outlet or TMZ. But my distaste for mint teas is trumped with the might of a Mongolian Horde by the sheer quality of this Moroccan Mint Tea from Intelligentsia Cafe. You get bum rushed hard by the taste of anti-oxident rich green tea and minty freshness in the perfect proportion. The only peppermint I can think of that even comes close is Hyson Mint Fizz.

Rating: A

Dax: Now this is what mint tea is supposed to taste like. Intelligentsia morrocan mint tea comes correct as ever. With origins in Chicago, they started off on the right foot with the perfect mix of green tea and peppermint, culminating in a shocking fresh mint tea that will have your nose feeing like the Swiss Alps. The color of the leaves in a perfectly heated tea press are undeniable, as is the grade that I am giving to my favorite mint tea review to date. Don't pass this one up next time you're at Intelligentsia. This turned more than one mint tea hater into a screaming teenage-like fan. Soo icy.

Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea - More Mint???

Dax:  Mint tea reviews bonanza here at TeaAmigos.  Out of the Celestial Seasonings camp comes a peppermint herbal tea with a mind set on the takeover. Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea focuses on one thing and one thing only, peppermint. The tea itself is of a deep caramel hue that is common amongst herbal teas. Mike became an instant hater just because it was peppermint and insisted on a different tea review. As you can see he was shutdown with the quickness. I love the after effects of a strong peppermint tea, and this one didn’t let me down. It could show minor improvements in the crisp department, as this tea is more mellow.

Rating: B+

Mike:  This peppermint tea from Celestial Seasonings tea has the same ingredients as most other peppermint teas, namely peppermint. So why does this tea taste significantly worse than the others? Perhaps it’s the quality of the peppermint leaves themselves or maybe the leaves are just old. Whatever it is, you can feel it. What starts out as your typically refreshing mint tea blast crescendos with a stale taste that just is not worth your time. If you are seeking a fresh mint tea, you need to seek elsewhere.

Bigelow Peppermint Herb Tea - Fast Forward to the Aftertaste

Bigelow Peppermint Herb TeaMike: Bigelow peppermint tea aspires to be the best mint tea in the tea-drinking world. I unsheathed the package and the soft, mint-laced aroma of frankincense drifted from the bag. Potent. I have never been a fan of peppermint; I think it was because I was traumatized as a child. When I was 6 years old, an intruder entered my house reeking of peppermint. I saw him taking away the family television set. He was aware of my presence and gave me a cold stare on his way out. Since then, I have not trusted the scent of peppermint whatsoever.

Bottom line, this Peppermint Tea from Bigelow is not for those faint of heart. If you are looking for a lightly peppermint flavored tea, this tea is not for you. The one positive thing I can say about it though is that it leaves a very cool, refreshing aftertaste and a smooth finish in the throat. Your tonsils feel like they received a scrubbing. Might be something to that...

Rating: B

Dax: Faithful TeaAmigos readers, you already know what it is: mint tea is by far my favorite type of tea. Call it wack, but mint tea is the illest to me. This tea in particular I’ve never tried before, but my best homey passed it along to me straight from his mother's cupboard. Bigelow seems to make some decadent teas, and this one puts no shame to their game.

Right off the bat you get that minty feeling in your nose, following by a minty coating in your mouth. The finish is smooth, and when you breathe its like Sub-Zero got your tongue. The mint tea flavor isn’t overwhelming like swallowing Listerine, but it is very prevalent by nature. I usually don’t steep my tea for very long, and this probably helped keep the flavor precise. This fresh mint tea and some Andes chocolates would probably put you in monu-mint-ally great mood. Either way, Bigelow Mint Tea is bomb.

Twining's Pure Peppermint Tea - The Flyweight Contender

Twining's Peppermint TeaMike: Faithful amigos fans will know that I’m not a fan of peppermint tea. On Dax’s insistence I geared my taste buds for the beating they were about to take and agreed to drink Twinings Pure Peppermint Tea. This particular Twinings Tea is not really tea even, because it contains no actual tea leaves. It’s an herbal tea, with no ingredients other than pure peppermint leaves.

So here goes the Twining's tea review, short and sweet. This peppermint tea from Twinings of London is a blast of peppermint to tongue, . The flavor is overbearing and there is no nuance because of the lack of actual tea or ingredients. It leaves a somewhat pleasant aftertaste, the same as after you got done brushing your teeth. It makes me feel hungry because I usually eat my breakfast directly after brushing my teeth. If you are a fan of peppermint tea, however, it seems like this one is quite flavorful. To each his own.

Rating: C-

Dax: Just to be redundant, I’m gonna repeat the fact that I love fresh mint tea. Peppermint tea is the tea for me. I love the complete spectrum of flavor that the herbal tea provides, and it is great hot or cold. Cold peppermint tea with a steak burrito is uniquely ridiculous, worth a try. So Twining’s Pure Peppermint Tea was introduced to me by the Dominick’s tea aisle, and I said, "what's good?". Got to steepin, and was a bit disappointed with what came out of this fresh smelling teabag. For all you beat junkies out there, you’d think this tea had the entire high end present, a huge cut at the 600 Hz, and no low end at all. Blast your favorite jam on AM radio and that’s what I mean, no body. My favorite peppermint tea (which will have its own prestigious tea review soon) gives off a grandiose, full bodied grace at every sip. Twining’s Peppermint Tea is a lot softer, but still a formidable contender in the tea game. I liked it, but there are some better ones out there.

Hyson Mint Fizz - Mike Finally Says Okay

hyson-mint-teaMike: You know the more I drink Hyson Teas, the more I am amazed at the fact that Hyson is such a little known brand. Look, I am not a fan of mint teas but Hyson has pulled yet another fast one on me. Hyson mint fizz is a fabulous mint tea with the ideal blending of mint and actual black tea leaves in the perfect proportions. The mint teas I reluctantly drank for previous tea reviews were herbal with no actual tea content. Get that bogus bull out of here, Hyson mint tea is coming through and it’s the new mint tea in town. Best of all, you don’t get the fresh mint tea taste of Crest Whitening Toothpaste left in your mouth for the next hour.

Rating: A

Dax: I chose the Hyson mint fizz tea today for my morning tea enjoyment. As you will find out, the Hyson Tea experience begins in the marketing. I'm actually not going to spoil the packaging for you, check it yourself. Smiling, I got to steeping this mint tea and loved what I saw. Some mint herbal teas give you a bit of froth around your mug, making its presence ever so felt. The Hyson mint tea did not let me down here, nor in the flavor department. This tea is smooth as the pink panther, and has a very clean taste. The mint was not overwhelming, but when I'm drinking mint tea, I want to be hit over the head.

Bigelow Sweet Dreams - Chamomile Collides with Mint

Mike: Sweet Dreams Herb Tea from Bigelow Teas is both a mint tea, and a chamomile tea that possesses the benefits of each. It’s an ideal balance because neither flavor is overpowering, which I usually find to be the problem with both chamomile teas and mint teas. I am not a fan of chamomile, in fact, I was once in a punk rock band called Rage Against the Chamomile. We were big in the early 90s. I should add this to my bio. Anyway, this chamomile flavored tea was pretty good.

Overall Rating: B+

Dax: Bigelow Tea Reviews once again, and this time chamomile tea graces my presence with its mysterious flavor. This time it’s Bigelow Sweet Dreams Herb Tea. This “relaxing blend of chamomile and mint” is reminiscent of many other herbal teas that I’ve had in the genre. Bigelow Sweet Dreams has a very rosy body with mint graces dalloped in the high end of the spectrum. I got a chilly tongue while drinking this herbal tea, probably the spearmint leaves that are in the mix. The aroma follows suit with its texture, a very deep and rose-inspired. I am not too big on chamomile teas, but this one will satisfy chamomile tea lovers out there.

Bigelow Mint Medley Keeps It Cool

Bigelow Mint MedleyMike: Bigelow Mint Medley is an mint herbal tea  that is a lot more interesting than other peppermint teas I’ve encountered. Most have had nothing but peppermint leaves but this Bigelow Tea features other ingredients, such as spearmint leaves, rose hips, and hibiscus that really give this mint tea a unique twang. It leaves your breath smelling fresh, and 3/12 dentists agree that Bigelow Mint Tea is an ideal substitute for brushing your teeth or flossing. In all seriousness, as someone who does not enjoy mint teas, this one was a pleasure to consume for today's Bigelow tea review.

Rating: B+

Dax: I like my mint tea a big stronger than most, and fortunately the slight dull flavor of Bigelow Mint Medley herb tea did the best it could. Extra This cup of tea was pretty basic, no highlight reel, no Stuart Scott commentary. I love fresh mint tea, so I can’t argue with Bigelow. They did add lemon peel and hibiscus to the peppermint leaves, giving it a crisp, tangy bite. A pretty decent mint tea, and I repeat the recommendation to enjoy a nice peppermint tea with spicy food, such as steak tacos with extra green sauce and jalapenos. Tasty way to end this tea review blog post.
