Twinings Lemon Twist Herbal Tea - Somebody Got It Right

Twinings Lemon Twist Herbal TeaMike: As our faithful readers know by now, Dax was in Argentina and the Dominican Republic on a teasan excursion. What he brought back was some unique Twinings Tea that I have never seen in the states. One of these is Twinings Lemon Twist herbal tea. Let me tell you that we're really missing out because even the herbal tea blends are better than they are here.
Faithful readers also know that herbal tea has been a struggle over here. They're usually some sweet, rosehip hibiscus mess with no character but that's not the case with Twinings Lemon Twist. This tea has just the right mix of these ingredients: 18.7% lemon grass, and 18.7% lemon peel along with other herbs to give it the glorious glow necessary to really be by appointment to her majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the packaging says. If you find it, buy it.

Rating: A+

Dax: Twining's Lemon Twist herbal tea enters the ring, sweatband-clad and ready to take the oversteep challenge. With a brand like Twinings looking to tap the herbal tea niche, the Lemon Twist is sure to be a citrus delight. I was reluctant to steep at first, as many lemon herbal teas just OD on citrus like a Warhead. Clearly Twinings Teas know better, and delivered a solid addition to the lineup. Not too much lemon, and passed the oversteep challenge like it cheated. Bravo.

Cachamai Boldo Tea - A Test of the Cajones

Cachamai Boldo TeaMike: Every teasan has his weak spot just like every Achilles has his heel. My weak point is my knowledge of Chilean herbs, especially Boldo tea. Cachamai Boldo tea was how I popped my boldo cherry and the xperience could have been better with a gentler, more subtle boldo. As I stood there, waiting for the boldo to touch my lips I thought about how long I had waited for this moment and how it was not at all the way I imagined it. It was a struggle at first. The taste of Cachamai Boldo tea was too much to bare at first, bitter and barky (like tree bark). The smell is intense too. As I got used to it, I started to enjoy it much more and found some pleasure in it. Though my first experiennce with boldo herbal tea was bitter-sweet, I am looking forward to my next.

Rating: B-

Dax: Cachamai Boldo herbal tea is a proud product of Argentina, and I'm sure that the country is upset about this bizarre tea. Well, I won't speak for them, but Cachamai Boldo is not for American tastes it seems. It is a digestive tea to help tame the itis, which I an appreciate. The flavor, on the other hand, resembles that of a coughdrop from the 20's. The aftertaste is reminiscent of the OG Listerine, no foolin. Your cajones better be Boldo to steep this brew. I couldn't finish it, ugh.

Tazo Wild Sweet Orange Tea - More Color Than Crayola

Tazo Wild Sweet Orange TeaDax: Tazo Wild Sweet Orange takes its playfully colored tea satchet and gets silly with it. Never to be without a bold flavor, Tazo tea reviews usually come correct in my book...except when things start srifting into Kool-Aid territory. This Tazo herbal tea is herbal for sure, boasting power orangey zest without any real tea inside. My feelings were a bit touched when I got that licorice root aftertaste. Now it was nothing like Stash Licorice Spice, but I personally wasn't a fan. This tea would be good if you are trying to get your tisane on, but it will never pass my palate again.

Rating: C+

Mike: Tazo Wild Orange tea has the glitz necessary to reach the pinnacle of said made up word. When you're doing a Tazo tea review, you got to look at all aspects of of a tea: color, smell, taste. The most descriptive voice to all 3 is sharp. The color is a vivid orange, just a bright almost unnaturally artificial orange. The smell is citrusy, cuts right into your nostrils. The taste is much the same. Tazo Wild Orange is a herbal tea base which means that the taste of the tea itself does not overshadow the flavor. You get an interesting citrus burst that is unlike any other orange flavored tea I have tried. I like  it!

Stash Licorice Spice Herbal Tea - Mouthwash Recommended

Stash Licorice Spice TeaMike: The little kids from Willie Wonka's chocolate factory would be trippin' on this Stash Licorice Spice "devil juice" as Dax called it because it is so damn sweet. Not only do you get wiped out by a tidal wave of the sweetness but you also get pummelled by an aftershock. An extra secondary wave comes at you hard when you sip this Stash herbal tea. When you're already broken beaten, and scarred, this licorice tea hits you again. Way to beat a man when he's already down, Stash Tea.
Anyway, the flavor is intense and there's no way anyone could ever claim it is weak or watered down. I'll drink it as a last resort but count me out for the most part.

Rating: C

Dax: I took a sip of Stash Licorice Spice tea, and was completely disgusted.  Sorry Stash, this was bogus.  Licorice tea should not exist, just like black licorice in the first place.  I gave a sip to a fellow teasan and they thought that I was mad at them.  Why else would I put someone through such agony.  Not only does it taste bad, the aftertaste is worse.  It's like 3 rounds with Mike Tyson.  Painful..

Harney & Sons Red Raspberry Tea - Beethoven's Crab Scratch

Harney and Sons Tea ReviewDax: Herbal tea gives me the creeps.  I expect most of it to taste like sugar-free Kool Aid mix.  A lot of people love it though, and Celestial Seasonings is caked out because of it.  I personally could do with without fake tea in my life, but my duties to TeaAmigos keep me in check.  Harney and Sons put together a fine blend of hibiscus, rosehips, apple granules, raspberry leaves, and poppy flowers in their red raspberry tea.  It still opens up with that tart twang, but it doesn't overpower its sweet finish. As the brew came to a close it took on a more sour potency that I enjoyed very much.  Harney and Sons turned dirt into a dollar.

Rating: A-

Mike: Harney and Sons Raspberry Herbal Tea came as a surprise to me because I always think of Harney and Sons as one of the standard bearers of tea. For this tea brand to take on herbal tea is like Beethoven scratching on turntables. But, you know what? A virtuoso is a virtuoso, and if turntables existed back in 19th century Vienna, Beethoven would have probably been the biggest DJ at the hottest clubs in Austria. The same is applicable to this Harney and Sons herbal tea. It beats other herbal teas with practically the same ingredients right out of the water. The taste is a slightly tart melody of raspberry flavor and floral essences. If you recall, several months back the Tea Amigos went on a Celestial Seasonings tea review binge. Their herbal teas also had hibiscus, rose hips, and lemon peel, but the taste was bogus. When it comes to raspberry tea, trust Harney & Sons.

Taylors of Harrogate Lemon & Orange Tea - Can They Make It Happen?

Taylors of Harrogate TeaMike: This is the third Taylors of Harrogate tea review. Here at TeaAmigos, we have a rule that once a tea brand has accumulated three tea reviews, we create a page for it. Taylors of Harrogate, it's your turn to face TeaAmigo's wrath. Taylors of Harrogate Lemon and Orange tea is a tea I imagine a nun at a Catholic School would enjoy. Not your friendly Sister Act type nun, I'm talking like Meryll Streep in Doubt kind of nun, the kind that dispenses hot ruler-on-wrist action to misbehaving students. This fruit tea just has something stern about it; maybe it is the slightly bitter aftertaste or the way in which the citrus interacts with the black tea base but there's just something spartan about it. The quality of the leaves and flavors themselves is extraordinary. Try this tea and see if you agree with my tea review.

Rating: A-

Dax: Well TeaAmigos, you can guess where this one is going. Taylors of Harrogate tea makes their best attempt at a Lemon and Orange tea, and I was not pleased. To wow my taste buds with their lemon tea would have required the strength of two teabags. Taylors of Harrogate Lemon and Orange Tea tastes like a high quality black tea with a bitter lemon finish. Orange only hangs around to be in the aroma scene. I pass on this guy.

Celestial Seasonings Wildberry Zinger - Herbal Jambalaya

Celestial Seasonings Wildberry ZingerMike: Yet another Celestial Seasonings sweet fruit tea but this one is pretty interesting. It has a lot of curious ingredients that add a bitter and tart element to the sweetness: rosehips, roasted chicory, orange peel, and the ever popular natural flavors. It also contains black raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, red raspberries, cranberries, and cherries. So, when they say that this is a wildberry zinger, they’re not kidding around. I suppose it really depends on how you define zinger though, since it has no formal definition.

Once you get past the sweetness, you can swish this herbal tea in your mouth for a while and appreciate some of the more hidden flavors. Otherwise, it tastes like diluted hot fruit juice. Might be enjoyable after a meal. Keep Celestial Seasonings Wildberry Zinger out of the reach of children unless you want your furniture broken.

Rating: C

Dax: Straying from this mint tea review barrage, today’s Celestial Seasonings tea review is all about Wildberry Zinger. The Zinger series makes its mark with heavy-duty fruit engagement mixed with a potent, yet tangy floral flavor. Celestial Seasonings lays the flavor on thick, unfortunately not the flavor I’m looking for in a tea. Blackberry is the alpha berry in this herbal tea, followed by cranberries and cherries. At least they didn’t include the puke berries from Hatchet; that would be a struggle. Try this one out if you like fruity tea flavors.

Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea - More Mint???

Dax:  Mint tea reviews bonanza here at TeaAmigos.  Out of the Celestial Seasonings camp comes a peppermint herbal tea with a mind set on the takeover. Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea focuses on one thing and one thing only, peppermint. The tea itself is of a deep caramel hue that is common amongst herbal teas. Mike became an instant hater just because it was peppermint and insisted on a different tea review. As you can see he was shutdown with the quickness. I love the after effects of a strong peppermint tea, and this one didn’t let me down. It could show minor improvements in the crisp department, as this tea is more mellow.

Rating: B+

Mike:  This peppermint tea from Celestial Seasonings tea has the same ingredients as most other peppermint teas, namely peppermint. So why does this tea taste significantly worse than the others? Perhaps it’s the quality of the peppermint leaves themselves or maybe the leaves are just old. Whatever it is, you can feel it. What starts out as your typically refreshing mint tea blast crescendos with a stale taste that just is not worth your time. If you are seeking a fresh mint tea, you need to seek elsewhere.

Tadin Cinnamon Tea - Some Hate It, Most Kill For It

tadin-cinnamon-teaMike: Tadin Cinnamon Tea is about as unusual as a green leaf, a blue sky, or a white Republican. There are no surprises here at all. There’s nothing “tea” about it even. They just put some cinnamon spice into a tea bag and called it cinnamon tea! Points off for lack of creativity.

The taste is not bad, however, if you like cinnamon. I do, so I enjoyed it. When it hits your tongue, it offers a light tingling sensation, the way pure cinnamon does sometimes. It’s a little too sweet, for my tastes and I’m not sure if Tadin Tea added sugar or if the sweetness comes naturally from the cinnamon. Regardless, that is about all the praise I could eke out for this herbal tea. Try it but I doubt you’ll become addicted.

Rating: B-

Dax: This tea is on hit.  Tadin Cinnamon Tea should be part of a complete breakfast.  Team this up with a bowl of Wheaties, a cup of OJ, and that random half grapefruit with a cherry in the middle.  I got hooked right away because of the smell of the teabag, cinnaminny to the fullest.  The tasts is as you would expect, a robust, cinnamon delicacy.  My girl drank about half the box of this Tadin tea, and envious friends stole the remaining half, forcing me to purchase another pack.  Tadin tea reviews were starting to look dismal with the onset of the Cactus tea, but then they came along and TOTALLY REDEEMED THEMSELVES!  Bravo Tadin.

Celestial Seasonings Black Cherry Berry - Guess What We Think

Celestial-Seasonings-TeaMike: You know, I do my best to try to treat all teas equally, without prejudice, even this Celestial Seasonings Very Berry Cherry tea.  Despite my previous experiences with Celestial Seasonings Teas, I really decided to give this herbal tea a chance.  Disappointment.  It tastes identically to all the other potpourri Celestial Seasonings Herbal Teas.  Lightly tart with strong presence of flower excrement, there is little to be said.  It's bitter, and generally avoidable.

Rating: C-

Dax: Celestial Seasonings reviews aren't extremely favored here at TeaAmigos. It's not that Celestial Seasonings makes bad herbal tea, it is simply because it isn't tea. This Very Berry Cherry blend is not very different from the rest of their line. The hibiscus, rosehips, and other miscellaneous herbs are tangy at most, but I really didn't get as hyped as when I'm drinking an oolong tea or any green tea for that matter. The one thing I give them credit for is that smell. The aroma is wonderful. I quote Mike by saying that Celestial Seasonings makes some mighty fine... flower drank. You already know what it is.

Bigelow Orange & Spice Tea - Set the Record Straight

Dax: I’ve tried orange spice tea before and it tasted like toilet. I got all hyped to try it because it smelled so good, and then wham. The sharpest contrast between smell and taste of all time it was. As you can imagine, I approached this Bigelow Tea with reluctance.

I was pleasantly surprised, however. The smell resembles something reminiscent of Chai Tea, and the taste does not have a thick, disgusting residue like the previous orange spice tea I had tried. The orange flavor is faint and not overbearing, and yet the tea does not taste watered down. Thanks to this Bigelow Tea review for getting me to rethink orange spice teas.

Rating: B+

Mike:  I have had a rough history with Orange & Spice tea. The last few I was unable to finish because for some reason they remind me of medicine. This Bigelow Tea Review, is a different story.

Bigelow tea decided to break the all popular trend of making disgusting orange and spice teas by removing the chamomile and other ingredients that inhibited the taste. What is left is an herbal tea that emits a pleasant, rose-orange smell that is corroborated by the taste. Mildly tart, lightly bitter, and slightly spicy, this Bigelow Herb Tea manages to have a lightly flavored, yet not watered down sort of taste. The one negative remark is that there is a bitter remnant, possibly from the orange peel in the ingredients. This Bigelow tea reviews as a...

Bigelow Cozy Chamomile - A Mouthful of Daisies

Dax:  From the Bigelow Assorted Herb Teas line comes an herb tea to be reckoned with. Bigelow Cozy Chamomile reopens my acceptance of chamomile teas. Like the wrapper states, it is indeed soothing as a field of daisies. This is the best tea to chill on, and is my favorite chamomile tea. Unlike other mediciney chamomile teas, Bigelow Cozy Chamomile is buttery like no other and will hit the spot. I enjoyed this tea with a garlic sesame noodle bowl and they were a match made in heaven. I highly recommend you try this one out with a garlic noodle dish, your mouth literally feels like it just won the lotto.

Rating: A

Mike:  Dax and I dropped by Dominick’s the other day to stock up on teas and we picked out this herbal tea sampler pack from Bigelow Tea. I’ve tried many teas from the Bigelow Tea company and many have been quite accomplished, sporting a history of taste sensationalism. I decided if I’m going to try herb teas (of which I generally am not a fan), it should be from Bigelow.

Calming chamomile for quiet moments. That’s what it says on the package and you gotta love the alliteration. The Bigelow tea itself can only be described as rich in chamomile flavor, almost overwhelming perhaps. The texture is oily and buttery. The chamomile tea leaves a sort of film in the walls of your mouth to let you know that it’s been there, and it’s not going anywhere for a while. Long after you have finished the last drop, you can feel the camomile tea with every swallow of the saliva.

Chamomile overload for me, but for those that cherish these flowery flavored teas, more power to you.

Detox Tea - Get Your Mind Right

Dax: The Coffee & Tea Exchange was the source of this abominable concoction. Detox tea is a popular brand of tea due to its cleansing properties. One would think a cleansing tea would taste a bit on the thicker, mediciny side. Folks, you couldn’t be more correct. This tea is very mysterious in color, taste, and consistency. Now, I’m not saying that a cleansing tea detox has to be a bad experience, but this one wasn’t too great to me. The herbal cleansing tea has an admirable rose tint, and is quite viscous. Tastewise, not it. Supposedly Mike’s heartburn went away because of this herbal tea, but I still wouldn’t make this the antidote for anything.

Rating: D

Mike: Well, detox tea tastes exactly like one would expect. I filled my tea ball with some of this loose leaf tea lovin’ and submerged it into my cup. The teaball’s holes were too large, and the detox tea too fine to stay contained. As a result, the ball kept releasing tiny seeds and stems into my cup, rendering the tea disgusting. So, if you plan on drinking this herbal tea, use a very fine filter.

The taste is very pungent with a certain herb that dominates all other tastes, but I cannot put my finger on which one. Like one would expect, this herb tea tastes like medicine.

Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger

Dax: My first thought when steeping Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zingerherbal teas.” This lemon tea is daaark, not what I expected at all. The smells are very vivid and the flavor is lemony to the fourth power. Celestial Seasonings continues to lay the refreshing flavor on real thick, adding roasted chicory, rosehips, and the infamous “natural flavors”. The mixture is well accepted and has earned this tea my number one tea...if I feel like drinking lemon tea. was, ”Damn, this is the Blacula of all

Rating: B

Mike: Lemon tea is pretty hit or miss in my book. Much like show biz, you either got it or you don’t. If we continue this metaphor, Lemon Zinger from Celestial Seasonings is a B-rate actor: not good enough for the lead role, too good to be an extra, perfect for a low-intensity supporting role. This herbal tea definitely has its moments. The smell is unbelievable. A delicious mixture of lemon citrus, mild spice, and rose hip sour-flower create one of the most fragrant lemon teas since earth’s inception. The color is a very rich dark red bordering black which is pleasant to observe. The taste is good too, don’t get me wrong, but it is not a replacement for tea. It’s a lemony base with some rose tinges provides a solid background for the slightly peppery aftertaste. I’m a fan of the sour but in this specific instance, the taste is overly so. from

Celestial Seasonings Sweet Apple Chamomile

Mike:  This chamomile tea from Celestial Seasonings is far from unusual. It’s everything you would expect from a tea with the following words in the title: sweet, apple, chamomile. As someone whose word associations with chamomile are “black death”, “Hitler”, and “IRS”, it is difficult for me to give chamomile teas an objective review, but I’ll do my best. The dominant flavor is clearly chamomile. It permeates every taste bud in your mouth, letting its presence be known. If a taste bud tries to run or hide, it is executed immediately. There is a slight hint of green apple as well. This is something that I like about this tea, the particular addition of green apple, as opposed to red or yellow, and it gives it a slightly tart tinge that would probably make this tea highly enjoyable for most, and bearable for some (namely me).

If you love chamomile, then this tea could be great for you. For me though...

Overall rating: D-

Dax: There’s always been a stigma towards chamomile teas: more or less they taste like garbage juice off of a truck in NYC. Well...probably not that bad, but they do have their crappy days. Abolishing all myths that have been intercepted by my ears, I tried a Sweet Apple Chamomile blend from Celestial Seasonings that was offered from my roommate. The apple flavoring is very delightful, and compliments its soft, sweet finish. Celestial Seasonings has officially changed my thinking about chamomile teas, I will give peace a chance. Nonetheless, I recommend this tea, possibly with a touch of honey or some of the Honey Tea kibbles from Assi Brand. You’ll be moderately hyped.

Bigelow Sweet Dreams - Chamomile Collides with Mint

Mike: Sweet Dreams Herb Tea from Bigelow Teas is both a mint tea, and a chamomile tea that possesses the benefits of each. It’s an ideal balance because neither flavor is overpowering, which I usually find to be the problem with both chamomile teas and mint teas. I am not a fan of chamomile, in fact, I was once in a punk rock band called Rage Against the Chamomile. We were big in the early 90s. I should add this to my bio. Anyway, this chamomile flavored tea was pretty good.

Overall Rating: B+

Dax: Bigelow Tea Reviews once again, and this time chamomile tea graces my presence with its mysterious flavor. This time it’s Bigelow Sweet Dreams Herb Tea. This “relaxing blend of chamomile and mint” is reminiscent of many other herbal teas that I’ve had in the genre. Bigelow Sweet Dreams has a very rosy body with mint graces dalloped in the high end of the spectrum. I got a chilly tongue while drinking this herbal tea, probably the spearmint leaves that are in the mix. The aroma follows suit with its texture, a very deep and rose-inspired. I am not too big on chamomile teas, but this one will satisfy chamomile tea lovers out there.

Bigelow Mint Medley Keeps It Cool

Bigelow Mint MedleyMike: Bigelow Mint Medley is an mint herbal tea  that is a lot more interesting than other peppermint teas I’ve encountered. Most have had nothing but peppermint leaves but this Bigelow Tea features other ingredients, such as spearmint leaves, rose hips, and hibiscus that really give this mint tea a unique twang. It leaves your breath smelling fresh, and 3/12 dentists agree that Bigelow Mint Tea is an ideal substitute for brushing your teeth or flossing. In all seriousness, as someone who does not enjoy mint teas, this one was a pleasure to consume for today's Bigelow tea review.

Rating: B+

Dax: I like my mint tea a big stronger than most, and fortunately the slight dull flavor of Bigelow Mint Medley herb tea did the best it could. Extra This cup of tea was pretty basic, no highlight reel, no Stuart Scott commentary. I love fresh mint tea, so I can’t argue with Bigelow. They did add lemon peel and hibiscus to the peppermint leaves, giving it a crisp, tangy bite. A pretty decent mint tea, and I repeat the recommendation to enjoy a nice peppermint tea with spicy food, such as steak tacos with extra green sauce and jalapenos. Tasty way to end this tea review blog post.

Bigelow Loves That Lemon

Dax: Bigelow Tea seems to have something going for them. Their tea selection is vast, the packages come in colors only matched by the hippest Nikes, and the flavors are pronounced and recognizable. Their I Love Lemon herb tea was spotlighted on this afternoon’s menu, let’s dig in to this Bigelow Tea Review.

Bigelow Lemon tea starts out in a potent teabag that can freshen up the interior of any hoopty. The color of the tea resembles that of grapefruit juice, and smells of fine lemon zest. Lemon tea is great when accompanied by honey, so I abandoned my purist thoughts for the moment and put a few drops of some golden nectar that I had on reserve. Bigelow I Love Lemon is very tart, so honey couldn’t help me with that. I didn’t like the fact that Bigelow added lots of ingredients, like ascorbic acid, soy lecithin, and those pesky natural flavors. I guess without them the true essence of a lemon could not be emulated. A decent lemon tea.

Rating: B+

Mike: The aptly named Bigelow “I love Lemon” Herbal Tea is a medley of all things lemon and the taste of said citrus fruit overshadows all others. It is quite pleasant to your tungsten as it covers it with a lightly sour-sweet flavor. To the amateur tea drinker, this lemon tea might taste like nothing more than lemonade post-microwave, but a seasoned teasan like myself knows to look for the other flavors present in this lemon tea. For example, a faint backdrop of hibiscus and rose hips provide this herb tea with the appropriate canvas for painting that lemony goodness. You will feel like you’re on your veranda basking in a warm spring afternoon, while your spouse is out paying the bills.  Bigelow tea review complete.

Pomegranate Pizzazz from Bigelow - A Struggle and a Half

Bigelow Pomegranate PizzazzDax: Is it just me, or is tea another victim of this recent pomegranate craze? Pomegranate has become one of those fashionable fruits, similar to acai, that people need to have in everything. Plus it gives companies a reason to charge 6 bucks for some juice. Pomegranate Pizzazz herb tea from Bigelow is a good example of this cult-like following for pomegranate. This Bigelow tea bag smells like a granola bar, and the actual hot tea has a light pom touch to it with luscious vibes of apple. Natural flavors make a cameo in the herbal tea, as well as orange peel, licorice root, and hibiscus. David and Eunice Bigelow felt the need to add pomegranate and apple juice concentrate to the mix, much to my dismay. The pomegranate tea is kinda tasty and leaves a fresh flavor in your mouth, but once again, just another fruit tea on the shelf.

Rating: C+

Mike:  I generally like Bigelow Tea but they really screwed the pooch on this one. The primary problem with Bigelow Pomegranate Pizzazz is that it tastes artificial, like you’re drinking a sugary beverage created for kids. What makes some fruit tea delicious is when it captures that fruit’s essence and encapsulates it into a hot tea. This is definitely not the case when it comes to Pomegranate Tea from Bigelow, which does not resemble pomegranate neither in taste, nor in style.

The taste is overly sweet and slightly tart with an odd aftertaste. To rid myself of the aftertaste, I drank some more Bigelow Pomegranate but as was expected, it was like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. This was definitely not my cup of herbal tea.
