Organic and Pure Green Tea - The Labor of Love

Organic and Pure Green TeaDax: By popular demand the TeaAmigos must take their esteemed teasanship to the like of Organic and Pure tea. This is one of those brands that will have you hooked, then disappear from the face of the earth. Organic and Pure green tea is a good example of an underground daily drinker. It's got that crispiness the I love plus the sencha taste that makes the green in you jump for joy. I know you are having a hard time finding this again, and the TeaAmigos are at your rescue. Coming extremely soon we will be able to suffice your Organic & Pure tea addiction. Must I say stay tuned?

Rating: A

Mike: We get requests on a daily basis asking us where people can buy Organic and Pure tea. The answer is no where...yet. We got a surprise coming your way but for now the brand is dead and there's nowhere to get it.
Why the company went out of business is a mystery to me because their teas, including Organic and Pure Green tea, are fire. Like other Organic & Pure teas, this green tea has the flavor pop I've come to know and love. Grassy and sassy, Organic & Pure Green tea must have been their labor of love, a lifelong ambition if you will. It's missing some of the Asianness of the real primo green teas but other than that you got yourself a hella good daily drinker.

Sierra Brand Green Tea - Keep It On The Regular

Sierra Brand Green TeaDax: Well, Sierra Brand seems to just keep it mellow.  Nothing fancy, nothing too daring, nothing special.  I can imagine this Sierra Brand Green Tea was made on a Tuesday, probably about 65 degrees out, partly cloudy, no chance of rain.  Average is as average does for this green tea.  Drink this only if you are feeling blah, and don't want to do anything about it.

Rating: C

Mike: Sierra Brand Green Tea is a pretty standard green tea which does not exhibit any particularly fruitful stats. Did you ever see the episode of Futurama where Fry & Company visit the neutral planet? If you haven't, watch it immediately so you can understand this Sierra Brand tea. If you have, then you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that this is the tea they would drink on the Neutral Planet. Not flavorful, not bad, bland. Not exciting but not disgusting. Just a run of the mill Sierra Green Tea that receives a run of the mill grade.

Tazo Joy Tea - Looking Good On Paper

Tazo Joy TeaDax: It seems like Tazo tea reviews are becoming second nature for the TeaAmigos, as their color-coded packaging is frequently gracing my inbox.  Today's steep is the Tazo Joy, a seasonal blend that mixes black tea, green tea, and oolong tea into one little teabag.  I say bring it on.  The smell is very bold and refreshing, begging you to get your steep on.  Color is dark, similar to a breakfast tea.  Now for the conundrum, which leaf brings out the most flavor?  The standout performance and Oscar goes to oolong tea.  I really liked this blend due to the fact that the oolongability is high, and the black tea plays a great supporting role.  Let me say that sometimes black tea tries too hard to be in the foreground, but it is forgiveable. Look for this one next Christmas time, or on a clearance aisle at Target (pronounced Tar-jay).

Rating: A-

Mike: Tazo Joy is a blend of black tea, oolong tea, and green tea meaning it covers the full spectrum of teas except for white tea. The packaging also says that these are fine, "celebratory" pickings. Let me tell you an analagous story all about this Tazo Joy.
I was in a celebratory mood out in Chitown at a club when I ran into a pretty little thing. Females love a teasan's game, especially when I whipped out my Tea Amigos Gifted Teasan business card. The game was over and I swooped her. I found out the reason she was so fine was because she was 1/4 black, 1/4 Puerto Rican, 1/4 Japanese, and 1/4 Jewish. Children with mixed ethnicities tend to do well in the looks department. Anyway, I'm not going to go into too much detail but let's just say what looks good might not always end up being as good as you imagined.
Same with this Tazo Tea. Though Tazo joy looks great on paper, performance is merely average. The black tea taste is too strong and leaves the other teas in the dust. Still not bad, just not as good as it looks. Solid daily drinker quality.

LeafSpa Eagle Nest Ever Drop Green Tea - Eagle What?

LeafSpa Eagle NestDax: LeafSpa what's good! A shout out to them for sending samples to the teasans at TeaAmigos! Mike and I steeped their Eagle Nest Ever Drop green tea today, and it was a treat for the senses. Steeping darker than usual, I didn't know what to expect from this LeafSpa tea. The smell and opening taste of this gift from the eagle's nest carries a certain mesquiteability that a fine breakfast tea would hold. Also, a faint fruity flavor reveals itself like a wardrobe malfunction, livening up the aftertaste. I can tell LeafSpa cares about their ingredients, this is a USDA organic and fair trade certified tea. LeafSpa looks out for the little guys, and looks out for you with this poppin tea. Don't try and play the name game with it.

Rating: A

Mike: Teasans beware, this green tea from Leafspa masquerades itself as a black tea by taste and even appearence. It's got the mesquitability necessary to fool tried and true teasans in a double blind tea identification. Some might even mistake it for a breakfast tea because of it's Assam-like taste.  It's minimal grassiness will also have you believe this is a black tea.
Despite this imposter's best attempts, we got him cornered. The taste described above is superb and Leafspa Eagle Nest Ever Drop Green Tea is one of the most unique green teas I have tried which is why you should try it to. Fresh is true.

Pickwick Green Tea with Lemon - Tastes Healthy, but Average

Pickwick Green Tea with LemonDax: Pickwick Green Tea with Lemon reminds me of my wife's cooking; when you drink it, it makes you feel good.  It just has that healthy taste to it.  The green tea flavor collides with some lightly zesty lemon and you get a Pickwick tea that casts a shadow on others from the brand.  The opposite experience is like eating Burger King and trying to go skate, it's the Ginsu guarantee that you will feel like a mess.  The green tea is light and crisp (maybe cause its a bit cheaper) and the lemon doesn't overtwang your tongue.  I didn't think this was gonna be a daily drinker, but Pickwick tea said "I told you so".

Rating: B+

Mike: Pickwick Green Tea with Lemon is a pretty average brew-ha-ha with pretty average grades in steepability, tasteability, and freshnessability. Lemon tea is a tough tea to pull off the right way and in my humble opinion, Pickwick has neither the teasanship, the experience, nor the steep-mastery required to blow the minds of said tea genre lovers. It's not bad but the lemonability tastes a little artificial and the base tea, as is always the case with Pickwick, lacks the freshness necessary to summit the Everest of Teasanship. Try your luck with a different lemon tea, son.

Lagg's Verde Green Tea - Thanks But No Thanks

Laggs Green TeaMike: Dax came back from Mexico all luche libre carrying this Lagg's tea back from his resort. Lagg's green tea sucks. I don't even know what else to say, the taste doesn't even resemble green tea. It tastes like chlorine and I know the problem is not with the water because I use the same water for all my teasan trials. Dax's mind was in the right place, always thinking about the tea hustle. What he brought back, though, was trash. Thanks, but no thanks.

Rating: F (undrinkable)

Dax: So Mike hated on the Lagg's Green tea with the quickness, but I was not so hasty.  It is parallel to an experience in the location where I got this Lagg's tea, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  See, you aren't supposed to drink the water in Mexico, for obvious reasons, and I'm not saying I did.  I was quite enthused about getting thrown around by powerful waves...until the next day when I was puking up my buffet breakfast.  Gross.  The story with Lagg's Green tea is that at first it seemed like a daily drinker, until the fertilizer finish sets in and you feel worried for you life... I won't fail this green tea, but I'm really disappointed...and sick.

Allegro Himalayan Green Tea - Part of Your Whole Check

Allegro Himalayan Green TeaDax: Now don't get me wrong people, I am a fan of green tea, but sometimes the tea just isn't my cup of said beverage. Allegro Himalayan Green tea just didn't sit too well, even though they boast that their blend holds Chinese and rare Indian Green Darjeeling teas. I did a side by side comparison taste test with an authentic Chinese tea from China, you can only guess who won. So far Allegro fine tea has been pretty good with the steepability, but this certain tea missed the mark. I steeped it quite lightly, as green darjeeling tea can be bold. Nonetheless it had that oversteeped taste all the way through. Somebody fudged this one up.

Rating: C+

Mike: When Whole Foods enters the tea junket, beta teasans beware.  Whole Foods isn't here to appear weak and they come correct with the flavor generally.  Whole Foods does not control a large part of the tea turf yet but you know when they step into the game with their own brand, the likes of daily drinkers and lower quality creations best move aside or be rolled over.  Allegro Himalayan Green tea is my favorite of the bunch so far.

If you want a very authentic, real tasting green tea then Allegro Himalayan Green is your one stop shop for the green tea pop.  It's that grassy umph-factor (TM pending) that many expect from a solid green tea and a smooth finish worthy of the Whole Foods title.  My obsession with WF started just a few weeks ago when I was on vacation in Scottsdale, AZ.  I had a Whole Foods close by and ended up going there all the time.  Amazing beer, amazing tea.  Regardless, this Allegro Green tea is about as authentic as it can get.  It does not have that almost supernatural flavor quality of a Taylors of Harrogate or Mighty Leaf tea, but it's definitely got something (umph-factor).  This exceeds daily drinker by a long shot.

Tazo Green Ginger Tea - Reluctantly Relenquished

Tazo Green Ginger TeaMike: Tazo Green Ginger tea is an interesting blend of two types of tea that one might not expect to complement each other but they do. At its heart, this flavored green tea from Tazo tea is a champion in the making but it still lacks the necessary umph to wield the Hammer of Prolific Destiny+3. The taste is slightly duller than one would hope which leads me to believe that this ginger green tea was not the freshest of brews. Nevertheless, this one is definitely worth you time and effort as it exceeds daily drinker quality in my book. Listen up and learn from the gifted teasan.

Rating: A-

Dax: Tazo Green Ginger tea has more bark then bite.  After having a ginger tea from medicinal brands like Traditional Medicinals, one would worry about getting that burning feeling in your throat.  Ginger is one hell of an herb, one swallow down the wrong tube and you are on the ground having a seizure, if not dead.  Tazo tea tames that ginger beast by integrating a nicely brewed green tea in the mix.  The aroma is quite gingery, yet the color and taste resemble a green and white tea fusion.  This is an interesting blend to say the least, as the ginger tea flavor is only present in the front end taste, while the back end is filled with a smooth, delicate green tea.  If you are on an extra health kick and need to ween yourself into the world of ginger, try this brew.

Tazo Refresh Tea - Check Yo Steep Before You Wreck Yo Steep

Mike: True teasans know what's in their steep. It's what being a teasan is all about. This is why when I was confronted Tazo Refresh Mint tea, I was taken aback momentarily by the ingredients. This mint tea from Tazo has something called tarragon, a new ingredient in the teasan's arsenal. For the most part, Tazo's mint tea tastes much like most mint teas you will uncover in your travels. Toward the end, closer to the oversteep, I felt a new sensation sweeping my tongue's imagination. It's all about the tarragon baby. A strange, slightly bitter herbal taste, but have I savored this flavor prior to this Tazo tea steep. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. It's the same taste when you drink detox tea in haste. Overall not bad, tastes kind of like a detox mint tea.

Rating: B

Dax: Seeing as this tea is called Tazo Refresh, and it is packaged in a green tea sachet, I steeped without any desire nor thought of reading the ingredients.  Tazo tea is generally flavorful and potent, with minimal side effects, so I wasn't thinking about drowsiness, nausea, migraines, suicidal thoughts, or chemical dependency.  Tazo Refresh green tea was looking good in my teacup, but I sensed a little something off with this green tea.  I found out that mint tea had made a guest appearance.  The situation as a whole was appreciated, but that first sip almost made me sick.  Not that this mint medley (no reference to Bigelow Mint Medley) was bad, I just wasn't expecting it at all.  I was in "steep shock".  Read prior to steep, yet enjoy.

Hyson Green Tea - Bubble Gum, Grape, or Peppermint Paste?

Hyson Green TeaMike: The Tea Amigos have been doing Hyson Tea Reviews from the getgo. As such, we have a hard time hating on Hyson Teas because of their support from the very beginning. Anyway, Hyson Green Tea is is a solid daily drinker green tea for the daily green tea lover. It wouldn't take me very long to recognize this tea at all, just a few ppm on my tongue and I would blurt out "thats Hyson green," with the quickness. How could I tell? 1. Hyson teas tend to have a sort of zestfully clean soapy tasty and texture to them, and this green tizzle is no different. Second, instead of the grassy taste of most green teas, this one is noticebly sweet. A little too sweet for my liking in fact but if you like sweet green teas then have at em hoss.

Rating: B+

Dax: When you venture away from the norm, it happens every so often that the fine balance you once hoped and dreamed for turns around and sprints as fast as possible. I figured that Hyson Green Tea was going to yield odd results, and it did. Hyson tea has already established themselves as a powerful flavored black tea producer. When they enter the triathlon and try to make quality earl grey tea or green tea, leg cramps at the starting gate. Hyson green tea tastes like it is for kids. Kind of like when you go to the dentist and they have those sweet flavors to pick from. This is just as unpleasureable. It is sweet like corn syrup. Period.  I didn't have a hard time hating. </bogusreview>

Double Koi Raspberry Green Tea - Oh No You Didn't

Double Koi Raspberry TeaDax: I fell out of my chair drinking Double Koi Raspberry Blend Tea.  I was not excited.  There was no electric surge in this raspberry loose green tea.  What was there was a full two struggles.  Double Koi has bangers under their belts, no doubt, but why was this tea so bogus?  It has a twang that reaches Warhead levels and it didn't drink well at all.  I'm too disappointed to go on.

Rating: D

Mike: In the teasan game, sometimes you got to know when you're beat. Simple as that, put down your gat, and don't go out like Tony Montana. Double Koi's Raspberry Blend Green Tea is no good and needs to admit defeat. The taste is wildly sweet which can be avoided with some hot water infusion but then the dillution becomes part of the situation and you don't want to dillute the green tea with, just the raspberry mess. Speaking of which, where's the green tea? It's faint presence is hardly felt and manifests itself as a bitter twang to ultra sweet raspberry nectar. More green tea, less raspberry would do this tea some benefit. One note: quality of ingredients is superb indeed. Balance sucks.

Allegro Ancient Forest Fusion - Magic in the Making

Allegro Tea ReviewMike: Allegro Ancient Forest Fusion is one of the more interesting teas the Amigos have tasted and certainly the most interesting from Allegro tea. This organic concoction features a unique mix of black tea, green tea, and white tea. The most dominant of the three is black tea which provides the base while the other ones serve as flavoring. Nevertheless, this is my favorite selection from Allegro. Smooth opening, strong dry finish with enough nuance and even some hickory smokiness to make you grab the 2nd and 3rd cups. Nice.

Rating: A-

Dax: I enjoyed trying Allegro Ancient Forest Fusion, featuring the green, black, and white teas from a mysterious patch of herbal habitat.  Allegro Tea so far has done a good job of leaving an impact on the TeaAmigos, and Allegro Fusion Tea did just as much justice.  At first, this fusion tea seems like a collage of different herbal teas, but later in the steep, ends up being a great experience.  I tasted the mesquiteability of a seasoned black tea, mixed with the grassiness of your favorite green tea, ending with that semi-sweet, almost soothing white tea finish.  This tea isn't the freshest or most crisp, but I does deliver a taste experience that all aspiring teasans should check out.

Orient Organics Tropical Green Tea - False Flaggin' the Funk

Tropical Green Tea ReviewsMike: Tropical Green Tea seems like a hot commodity. Mighty Leaf, Revolution Tea, and several others have their own variants. It was the little known Orient Organics' time to have a go with this popular blend. If Mighty Leaf's Tropical Green Tea is skydiving, then Orient Organics is like jumping off a diving board. Smells nice, solid presentation. Comes in a nice pyramid-like satchet very similar to Lipton's infuser teabags. Once you dive in you it tastes pretty watered down. Get it? Watered down? Doesn't live up to the dream. But hey, nice bellyflop off the diving board.

Rating: C

Dax: Off top, Orient Organics is going to have to muster up quite a performance to stand tall next to the competition for best tropical green tea. Welp, they already lost points from the Transylvanian judge for funky opening smell. Steeping Orient Organics tropical green tea is strange, as it doesn't seem to be the right color. On to the taste, which resembles some sort of stale Juicy Juice from '05. I can't put my finger on this fruit flavor that I taste, but upon reading the ingredients, I see that it must be the cornflower blossoms or sunflower. Interesting. It's like when you play tackle football and accidentally swallow a dandelion. No bueno.

Allegro Decaf Green Tea - Jitter-Free Green Tea

Allegro Decaf Green TeaMike: Allegro Decaffeinated Green Tea is like a Renaissance era male opera singer who had his testicles removed to maintain the ability to sing in an ultra high pitch. By decaffeinating this green tea, Allegro removed any strength it might have had in taste and flavor. Embarrassingly emasculated, Allegro decaf green tea retains none of it's character. Instead, it is a tasteless, unfresh brew, like most decaf teas. To be avoided...

Rating: F

Dax: Wow, hate illustrated in tea review form. Well, we haven't reviewed that many decaf teas as of recently, and don't fret as there isn't a reason for it.  Sometimes you want to keep everything original.  Taking away the caffeine from a green tea tells me that it underwent some crazy process.  You can't take the bark out of the dog, as you shouldn't.  Nonetheless, Allegro Tea has processed a decaf green tea that they coin is "ultra-mellow".  The tea ratings are in, and I say Allegro decaf green tea is okay in my book.  Sometimes decaf green tea just tastes different, and you can only find this outlying factor in a decaffeinated tea.  The flavor is indeed "diet" but to me is like drinking Diet Coke.  Sometimes you just want to taste the flavors, or the lack thereof.  By no means is this a premier steep, but don't be afraid of this one if you are in Whole Foods and your aunt needs her green tea sans jitter-juice.

Taylors of Harrogate Delicate Green Tea - Search and Employ

Taylors of Harrogate TeaMike: Taylors of Harrogate tea was an unintentional parting gift from a wedding.  A good guy, TeaAmigos was on his mind.  So in this gift bag came a Delicate Green tea which is a powerful chariot and steed. A mouthful of intensity overwhelmed me and changed my tea standards dna gene.  Could it be more relevent to perfection, this green tea dares to do so.  Faithful fans, green tea needs to be grassy, hearty, and have a sweet smooth finish.  This green tea has all of the above. Seek Taylors of Harrogate out and sip this champion asap.

Rating: A

Dax: Talk about a delicacy!  Taylors of Harrogate broke us off with a green tea that makes all others shiver in their sachets.  I've never seen a green tea labeled as "delicate", but by the looks and taste of this tea, I already know what it is.  Taylors of Harrogate Delicate Green Tea is full of grassy goodness with a golden body like an Oscar.  I oversteeped it just a tad, no noticeable side effects.  Before my induction into supreme teasanship, I had never seen nor heard of this tea brand.  Anybody seen this before?  If you have, go back and buy it.  This is premier green tea right here.

TenRen Green Tea - A "Budget"  Vacation

TenRen Green TeaDax: I've come to the conclusion that not all Chinese green teas are instant winners.  Usually I flock to teas like this Ten Ren green tea because of their roots in the history of all things teasan.  This was a diferent game here.  Tenren green tea isn't bad by any means, yet it lacks the greenery I demand in Chinese tea.  Also, some sort of rotten twang was left in my mouth upon swallowing.  I asked if I could get a witness, and Mike said he been done known about it.  Watch for the aftertaste.

Rating: B-

Mike: Tenren green tea does not kill the game, unfortunately. The Ten Ren black tea featured in a previous tea reviews post killed the game but not its green tea counterpart. While the former had nuance and flavor, Ten Ren Green Tea offered a lackluster performance. I would equate it to a basketball player on a breakaway laying the ball in the hoop instead of reverse dunking the sucker in. Nothing subtle about it, this Tenren tea offers a similar taste to what any standard green tea has to offer with a little more umph in the back of the throat. Save your money and go with a less expensive green tea.

Rituals Oriental Green Tea - I Just Want Regular Tea

Rituals Green TeaMike: Rituals Tea is a new brand of tea here at Tea Amigos. I'm not sure where Dax snagged this one from but the presentation is sub-par. The tea comes in a rather unattractive greenish paper bag worthy only of gas stations, convenience stores, and brothels. The green tea itself is surprisingly not bad, just kind of a standard, slightly bitter, slightly sour green tea essence. I steeped it something awful so I had that enjoyable back of throat sensation a strong green tea can produce. Still, this Rituals tea lacks the fortitude to dance with the big gorillas of the green tea arena. It lacks supreme sweetness or grassiness typical of good green teas. Can this Rituals Tea make it as a daily drinker? Maybe, but there are probably better choices.

Rating: B-

Dax: I have to admit, I had low expectations on the Rituals tea.  Don't blame it on the pack a-a-a-a-ackaging, but the place of discovery. The hospital cafe is not the place to be finding oriental green tea, but the TeaAmigos are everywhere tea is, and everywhere you want to be.  Rituals green tea is a is like a professional video game player: you are a king of your craft, but your craft is...well, weak.  No offense to those that know every reversal move in Street Fighter Alpha, but it's no Olympics.  This green tea tastes good, and is drinkable, but it didn't win anything good. An okay random find, but don't put down your joystick for it.

Trescerro China Green Tea - Freshness Denied

Trescerro Green TeaMike: Trescerro China Green Tea is one of the most pathetic excuses for green tea I have ever tasted.  Trescerro tea is a new brand of tea that we got going on. Didn't Trescerro's mom ever teach them that first impressions are important. Well, Laura Kofman is a saint, and she taught me. But, she also taught me another lesson: don't judge a book by its cover. Therefore, I will not abandon future attempts at Trescerro tea. This tea is stale as hale and the freshness factor has a coefficient of .0001. Freshness denied. There's an aftertaste which causes your taste buds to wince in pain. This Trescerro Green tea is little league.

Rating: D-

Dax: Well, I don't what had happened here, but Trescerro china green tea is bogus.  I thought I oversteeped or something, but you can't really do green tea like that.  What started as an okay tea, turned into an abomination of a beverage. My oh my will somebody help Trescerro out with their blends!  Maybe the next tea review will hold a different story.  Ugh... Listerine time.

Stash Ginger Peach Green Tea - Keeps Its Head High

Stash Ginger Peach Green TeaDax: Stash Tea has many different tea fusions that are mysterious as well as delectable. Stash Ginger Peach Green tea is a great balance between its tasty elements. A sensual, fragrant aroma emits from the sachet and your beverage soon experiences a goldenrod hue. Some ginger tea is purely meant to be used as a dietary supplement, and their overkill ginger taste shows. This green tea was more along the lines of a white tea with ginger wearing a peach uniform. For more peach flavor, try Hyson Midsummer peach tea.

Rating: B+

Mike: Stash Ginger Peach Green Tea is being tried as we speak. Normally what I do when I write my awesome tea reviews is I first drink the tea, then write about it on the last sips. This time you get the patented Kofman play-by-play instant replay, brought to you by Stash tea. Get some. As of right now the peach tea is too hot to drink but the smell that was unleashed as I unsheathed the teabag from its protective coating was beyond intensely peach. The aroma is amazing. I can't wait to actually try it and see if the taste stacks up to the smell. He goes in for the first taste...

And it's a disappointment. What do you have to say, Gifted Teasan?

Well, it's a nice effort. Stash tea gave a 110% but just didn't come through with the taste. We scored a lot of points but it just wasn't enough to put us over the edge. I just didn't feel like our two star players, green tea and peach flavor, really stepped up their games. We're going to go home and replay the recipe to see what we did wrong. I'm proud of my guys anyway.

Tazo Organic Green Tea - Earthy, Grassy, and Eco-Friendly

Tazo Organic Green TeaMike: Tazo Organic Green Tea is one of the leafier grassier green teas I have had the pleasure to sip on. The packaging boasts of earthy and smokey flavor. While I cannot recognize either of those taste sensations in this organic tea, it is a rather tasty organic green tea nevertheless. The freshness factor could be upped because I feel like this Tazo Organic Tea may have been stashed away for sometime before reaching my cup of boiling water. You can't really hold it against Tazo Tea because I might have simply gotten a hold of an older teabag. Who knows how long this tea was lying around for, waiting for the TeaAmigos to get their tea review on.

Rating: B+

Dax: Finally, a company understands the compelling need for smokiness in organic tea. Tazo Organic Green tea says so right on the wrapper, but does it deliver? I think that green tea should have more of an earthy, holistic feel to it, and black tea is when bbq comes into play. Tazo tea did lay the flavor on pretty solid, laying some nice grassy hints. Overall this organic green tea is right on the mark.
