Bigelow English Breakfast Tea - Starter or Standard?

Dax: It has been a hot minute since the TeaAmigos embarked on a Bigelow Tea journey.  I can't help but say that I am quite excited to steep up on their rendition of English Breakfast tea.  At first sight it is a dark, bold blend, despite the steeping antics of the Gifted Teasan Mike.  When's the last time you brewed up some breakfast tea with a hospital mask?  I didn't think so.  Well, Bigelow English Breakfast is the hotness.  I let out one of those token "Mmmmm!" as soon as it hit my lips.  Not at all heavy on the mesquite black tea taste, Bigelow Breakfast Tea is a sweet blend that hits you in all the right areas. A slight honey taste is present, and I'm not talking about some Assi Brand honeyed tea.  Pure flavor perfection, and a must taste for you teasans taking notes at home.  Holler at this.

Rating: A+

Mike: I just talked with Dax about this Bigelow tea. He says it changed the game. I say it was benched and got 2 minutes of time on the court prior to being subbed out for poor perfomance. Bigelow English Breakfast is about as orthodox of tea as you can get. Very middle of the road, run of the mill, classic, and bland. I taste nothing different in Bigelow English Breakfast than in your standard breakfast tea. This is below daily drinker quality in my opinion.

Bigelow Earl Grey Tea - A Teasan's Best Friend

Bigelow Earl Grey TeaMike: Bigelow Earl Grey Tea is the best bang for your buck Earl Grey tea you are going to find. The back of the tea package has some marketing material that I found humorous until I actually tried this Bigelow Earl Grey. It describes this Earl Grey as an "aristocratic blend," a description that can hardly be taken seriously until you actually try this tea and instantaneously transmorph into the Earl Grey himself, sipping this tea in your chambers chateau on a mountaintop in Wales. Then you instantly understand that Bigelow Tea was not futzing around when they created this blend.
This Earl Grey tea stands on par with some of the most prestigious names in this sport: Harney and Sons, Taylor's of Harrogate, and others without the premium tea price tag. Dax, induct this bad boy into our Best Teas.

Rating: A+

Dax: Bigelow tea reviews come around often due to Bigelow tea being such a dominate force in the tea game.  Everywhere I go I see Bigelow tea. Wake up in the morning, Bigelow Constant Comment toothpaste.  Want some breakfast, Bigelow French Vanilla in the mix.  Go check the mail, Bigelow Mint Medley sample.  Fill up your tank at Shell, you get the picture.  So Bigelow earl grey tea is one that you can catch virtually anywhere, and you should get it.  The bergamot is splendid and the black tea base forms a staples in the earl grey tea community. Teasans, lend me your ears. Bigelow Earl grey is on hit.

Bigelow English Teatime Tea - Gettin' Fly on a Budget

Bigelow Tea TimeDax: Daily rituals are nice to have.  I'm not talking about Rituals tea, but just a little everyday something that brings some structure to the day.  Bigelow English Tea Time atempts to grasp that market with a well blended black tea.  Right on the mark, Bigelow snapped on this full-bodied tea.  It has a strong, leafy flavor without the mesquitability of a breakfast tea.  This is a daily drinker for sure, as it is easy on the palate and easy to find.  Grocery store, gas station, 7-11, they all stock up on Bigelow flava.  Have you guys had this one?  Leave a comment and tellus what you think.

Rating: A

Mike: Bigelow English Tea Time is yet another Bigelow Tea that features rugged construction and the winning attitude of an achiever. This black tea lacks the Southwest mesquiteability of its breakfast tea counterparts but it is still a deep, rich Bigelow black tea with hardly any flaws. Instead of hickory smokiness, you get fresh autumn leafiness, but not the lawn grassiness of green teas. Bigelow English tea time tea is definitely a contender for the best black tea in its price range.

Bigelow Raspberry Royale - Smack Dab Right on the Money

Bigelow Raspberry TeaDax: Let me say a couple things about herbal tea before I get into this Bigelow tea review.  Herbal teas got herbs in them, no doubt, but you gotta be sure to screen them with this question, "Are you really tea?" If the first ingredient is chicory or rosehips, make a citizen's arest for identity theft.  The point is, Bigelow Raspberry Royale has a first ingredient of black tea, making it delectable and tasty, not tart and tangy.  The berry flavor settles in after the jump and makes you feel happy that you didn't. let just any old tea in your teacup.  I'm gonna have the Gifted one elaborate on this subject more in a tea article.

Rating: B

Mike: Bigelow Raspberry Royale packs an intense raspberry punch that is sure to yield an upper lip of maximum stiffness. In short, Bigelow tea surprised me yet again with this ultra tasty raspberry tea. As with our other Bigelow Tea Reviews, Bigelow keeps its end of the bargain by splicing maximum steepability with unparalleled smoothness in one tight package. Get a burst of delicious raspberry flavor with every sip. Don't drag your feet and get your lips all over this sachet.

Bigelow Plantation Mint - Sketchy Name, Sketchy Mint Tea

Bigelow Plantation MintDax: A mint tea with a suspect name, Bigelow Plantation Mint tea is an underachiever in my book.  It totally had my expectations extra high with its Doublemint gum smelling teabag.  Unfortunately it has a tenth-mint taste.  Mint tea reviews are supposed to be wonderful and enjoyable, yet this Bigelow Tea had me struck.  On a positive note, the black tea itself is smooth and characteristic of Bigelow, but that spearmint ingredient is lacking on the real.

Rating: C

Mike: Bigelow Plantation Mint Tea is a hard pill for me to swallow because as faithful TA readers know, the gifted teasan, Michael Kofman, is not particularly fond of mint tea. However, this Bigelow Mint Tea is spectacular. The base black tea is rich with flavor, and wait till the mint leaf hits your tongue. The first wave of mint is mild but there's an interesting effect that occurs at this juncture in your tea tasting experience. A second wave of mint comes right after the first, this time, a tidal wave. Bigelow tea did something sinister to make their Bigelow Plantation Mint this good.

Bigelow 100% Ceylon Tea - The OG Black Tea

Bigelow Black TeaDax: So the wife asks you to bring home some black tea after work and of course, like a male, you totally forget.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, Bigelow tea has you covered, as you cop some Bigelow Ceylon tea from the gas station.  As you know Bigelow tries to capture the convenience market by selling at gas stations.  This Bigelow 100% Ceylon is the OG never seen in a regular store.  The black tea makes a decent attempt at stardom, but as you can imagine, only ends up being a normal citizen.

Rating: B

Mike: Bigelow 100% Ceylon Tea is not the kind of tea you would serve the Duchess of York if she were over at your crib, but it makes for the perfect daily drinker. This is the perfect after-meal black tea to settle your stomach post ingestion and cap off your consumption binge. Or, have it in the morning for a little caffeine boost. While the taste can best be described as "neutral" or "leafy but not grassy," this Bigelow tea makes up for it. It's not old, or stale, just a standard, unflavored Bigelow black tea. I'd sooner drink this than Lipton Black Tea or black teas from other brands of tea for that matter. Make Bigelow 100% Ceylon Tea your daily drinker.

Bigelow French Vanilla Tea - Why You So Obsessed With Me?

Bigelow French Vanilla TeaMike: Bigelow French Vanilla Tea is a pretty typical dessert tea that features a fragrant vanilla splash into a solid black tea base. This flavored tea from Bigelow Tea Company kind of reminds me of an expensive spa, a country club pool, and Bed Bath and Beyond despite the fact that it bears no resemblance to soap in neither taste nor smell. I just imagine that people who frequent the aforementioned establishments would be privy to this Bigelow flavored tea because it has the sort of relaxing undertones within. Yet another positive Bigelow Tea review. It does what it is supposed to do.

Rating: A-

Dax: As we dive into a Bigelow Tea Review, I think about all of the Bigelow teas that have graced the pages of TeaAmigos. Who can forget their Green Tea with Pomegranate, or their peppermint herb tea. Today's steep is a luscious french vanilla dessert tea. Bigelow French Vanilla is a great black tea mixed with some no-named flavors and spices. The bag smells faintly of caramel, and begs to be steeped. The taste is delicious and seemingly asks for a dash of sugar to be added. The tea itself is just sweet enough to calm the tooth bearing that name, but go ahead and give it some more love. Try this one out with pecan ice cream.

Bigelow Green Tea with Mint - Little of This, Little of That

Bigelow Green Tea with MintDax: Mmmm Bigelow Tea... Their vast selection is always interesting to sample. Today’s catch brought in their Green Tea with Mint. A very pleasant and mild aroma is generated at first steep, clearly paving the way for a great tasting tea. The green tea flavor is slightly more noticeable than the mint, and the overall smoothness is clearly noticeable.  Bigelow did a fine job on their Green Tea with Mint, the lasting flavor makes your mouth as comfortable as a Sunday in pajamas. The entire opposite of lackluster, big ups Bigelow.

Rating: A

Mike: A big shout out to Bigelow Tea whose blog recently recognized Tea Amigo’s existence. We’re moving up the tea blog totem pole! Anyway, so back to Bigelow tea reviews. The ingredients are simple enough: green tea and mint leaves. The secret to this tea’s delicious taste is steepability. Not to violate a famous trademarked slogan from a famous beer or anything. No, the true secret is the balance they struck between the mint and green teaBigelow Tea chose perhaps a slightly mintier ratio than I would have chosen myself, but the result is nevertheless delicious. Your journey begins with a sweetened cooling sensation and the finish is that of lightly steeped tea. Overall, a highly enjoyable tea that I would drink as a stand-alone.

Bigelow Peppermint Herb Tea - Fast Forward to the Aftertaste

Bigelow Peppermint Herb TeaMike: Bigelow peppermint tea aspires to be the best mint tea in the tea-drinking world. I unsheathed the package and the soft, mint-laced aroma of frankincense drifted from the bag. Potent. I have never been a fan of peppermint; I think it was because I was traumatized as a child. When I was 6 years old, an intruder entered my house reeking of peppermint. I saw him taking away the family television set. He was aware of my presence and gave me a cold stare on his way out. Since then, I have not trusted the scent of peppermint whatsoever.

Bottom line, this Peppermint Tea from Bigelow is not for those faint of heart. If you are looking for a lightly peppermint flavored tea, this tea is not for you. The one positive thing I can say about it though is that it leaves a very cool, refreshing aftertaste and a smooth finish in the throat. Your tonsils feel like they received a scrubbing. Might be something to that...

Rating: B

Dax: Faithful TeaAmigos readers, you already know what it is: mint tea is by far my favorite type of tea. Call it wack, but mint tea is the illest to me. This tea in particular I’ve never tried before, but my best homey passed it along to me straight from his mother's cupboard. Bigelow seems to make some decadent teas, and this one puts no shame to their game.

Right off the bat you get that minty feeling in your nose, following by a minty coating in your mouth. The finish is smooth, and when you breathe its like Sub-Zero got your tongue. The mint tea flavor isn’t overwhelming like swallowing Listerine, but it is very prevalent by nature. I usually don’t steep my tea for very long, and this probably helped keep the flavor precise. This fresh mint tea and some Andes chocolates would probably put you in monu-mint-ally great mood. Either way, Bigelow Mint Tea is bomb.

Bigelow Vanilla Almond Tea - An Ideal Pre-Itis Beverage

Bigelow Vanilla AlmondDax: It's been a while since we've conquered Bigelow tea reviews, and Bigelow Vanilla Almond hit the spot quite nicely. With a potent as fudge teabag, Bigelow brings a great spiced tea to the table. The steep was gentle, as I maxed some hot wings earlier, and helped ease me into the pending itis. For some odd reason I added a pinch of sugar to this almond tea, and it gave this brew a genuine sweetness. Bigelow tea made me a happy man this time around, and I highly recommend this vanilla almond tea if you like a smooth, yet delicately sweet after dinner tea.

Rating: A-

Mike: Bigelow Vanilla Almond Tea is a quality choice for those in the market for a wholesome flavored tea. When you unsheath the packet, a strong, warm smell blasts you in the face like a Jackson Pollack. Once you come to your senses, you realize that the floavor exhibited by this Bigelow Tea is actually the description on the packaging: vanilla and almond. How fitting. Lightely sweet and pleasant to the taste, Bigelow births a refreshing vanilla almond tea for the casual drinker to the seasoned teasan.

Bigelow Vanilla Chai Tea - It's About Time

Dax: This Bigelow Tea Review was long overdue, as the box of Bigelow Vanilla Chai tea has been sitting at the crib for a minute. This Bigelow Tea seems to be pretty popular, as I've seen it around the way many a time. First off, the smell is amazingly nutty. The taste is surprisingly smooth and fulfilling. This is nothing that I would put past Bigelow, but like it says on the package, the blend of exotic spices and black tea makes this chai spice tea a delicate addition to our tea reviews. The back end flavor is thick, leaving a refreshing, semi bitter flavor. Of course, I didn't add milk or sugar to this, so you'll have to experiment with that on your own, my young teasan.

Rating: B+

Mike: Bigelow Vanilla Chai is single handedly the best Bigelow Tea in the Bigelow Teas lineup, in my opinion. Upon contact with hot water, what was once a small, porous paper bag filled with plant leaves becomes nothing less than a life-altering, chi and shakra aligning small, porous paper bag filled with plant leaves. Seriously, Bigelow Vanilla Chai Tea is that good. This chai tea hits your nose instantly with freshly baked cookie aroma followed by a taste that can only be described as spiced vanilla-gasm.

I know that Bigelow Tea has not received the best rap from tea review blogs or snobby tea connoisseurs in the past because their teas are widely available and even sold at gas stations. I know. Don’t let this stop you from copping some of this tea. Grab a cookie or something sweet to enhance the flavor. Dax, you gotta show Bigelow Vanilla Chai some lovin with a tea beat!

Bigelow Orange & Spice Tea - Set the Record Straight

Dax: I’ve tried orange spice tea before and it tasted like toilet. I got all hyped to try it because it smelled so good, and then wham. The sharpest contrast between smell and taste of all time it was. As you can imagine, I approached this Bigelow Tea with reluctance.

I was pleasantly surprised, however. The smell resembles something reminiscent of Chai Tea, and the taste does not have a thick, disgusting residue like the previous orange spice tea I had tried. The orange flavor is faint and not overbearing, and yet the tea does not taste watered down. Thanks to this Bigelow Tea review for getting me to rethink orange spice teas.

Rating: B+

Mike:  I have had a rough history with Orange & Spice tea. The last few I was unable to finish because for some reason they remind me of medicine. This Bigelow Tea Review, is a different story.

Bigelow tea decided to break the all popular trend of making disgusting orange and spice teas by removing the chamomile and other ingredients that inhibited the taste. What is left is an herbal tea that emits a pleasant, rose-orange smell that is corroborated by the taste. Mildly tart, lightly bitter, and slightly spicy, this Bigelow Herb Tea manages to have a lightly flavored, yet not watered down sort of taste. The one negative remark is that there is a bitter remnant, possibly from the orange peel in the ingredients. This Bigelow tea reviews as a...

Bigelow Cozy Chamomile - A Mouthful of Daisies

Dax:  From the Bigelow Assorted Herb Teas line comes an herb tea to be reckoned with. Bigelow Cozy Chamomile reopens my acceptance of chamomile teas. Like the wrapper states, it is indeed soothing as a field of daisies. This is the best tea to chill on, and is my favorite chamomile tea. Unlike other mediciney chamomile teas, Bigelow Cozy Chamomile is buttery like no other and will hit the spot. I enjoyed this tea with a garlic sesame noodle bowl and they were a match made in heaven. I highly recommend you try this one out with a garlic noodle dish, your mouth literally feels like it just won the lotto.

Rating: A

Mike:  Dax and I dropped by Dominick’s the other day to stock up on teas and we picked out this herbal tea sampler pack from Bigelow Tea. I’ve tried many teas from the Bigelow Tea company and many have been quite accomplished, sporting a history of taste sensationalism. I decided if I’m going to try herb teas (of which I generally am not a fan), it should be from Bigelow.

Calming chamomile for quiet moments. That’s what it says on the package and you gotta love the alliteration. The Bigelow tea itself can only be described as rich in chamomile flavor, almost overwhelming perhaps. The texture is oily and buttery. The chamomile tea leaves a sort of film in the walls of your mouth to let you know that it’s been there, and it’s not going anywhere for a while. Long after you have finished the last drop, you can feel the camomile tea with every swallow of the saliva.

Chamomile overload for me, but for those that cherish these flowery flavored teas, more power to you.

Bigelow Green Tea with Pomegranate - One of Life's Pitfalls

Bigelow Green Tea with PomegranateMike:  The great thing about Bigelow Green Tea with Pomegranate is that you’re not drinking herbal fruit juice; you got some real green tea up in the house. The bad thing about this Bigelow Tea is that the flavor is subdued. Don’t get me wrong, it is a solid brew to be sure. Lightly tart, with a dash of that unfermented tea finish, Bigelow’s Pomegranate tea has its charms, but I get the feeling that there is little to explore in this tea. What you taste is what you get, and there are not too many nuanced taste sensations. Give it a shot and see if you agree with my Bigelow Tea Review.

Rating: B+

Dax:  Well, this tea had me confused.  Bigelow Green Tea with Pomegranate just doesn't come through in the flavor department.  I mean the phone is ringing and nobody hears it.  Yes the faint green tea flavor passes through, but Bigelow made this for the "fashionable" folk that don't know what they are sippin.  Bigelow Tea is amazing, don't get me wrong.  I just must have been having a bad tea day... not.

Bigelow Sweet Dreams - Chamomile Collides with Mint

Mike: Sweet Dreams Herb Tea from Bigelow Teas is both a mint tea, and a chamomile tea that possesses the benefits of each. It’s an ideal balance because neither flavor is overpowering, which I usually find to be the problem with both chamomile teas and mint teas. I am not a fan of chamomile, in fact, I was once in a punk rock band called Rage Against the Chamomile. We were big in the early 90s. I should add this to my bio. Anyway, this chamomile flavored tea was pretty good.

Overall Rating: B+

Dax: Bigelow Tea Reviews once again, and this time chamomile tea graces my presence with its mysterious flavor. This time it’s Bigelow Sweet Dreams Herb Tea. This “relaxing blend of chamomile and mint” is reminiscent of many other herbal teas that I’ve had in the genre. Bigelow Sweet Dreams has a very rosy body with mint graces dalloped in the high end of the spectrum. I got a chilly tongue while drinking this herbal tea, probably the spearmint leaves that are in the mix. The aroma follows suit with its texture, a very deep and rose-inspired. I am not too big on chamomile teas, but this one will satisfy chamomile tea lovers out there.

Bigelow Mint Medley Keeps It Cool

Bigelow Mint MedleyMike: Bigelow Mint Medley is an mint herbal tea  that is a lot more interesting than other peppermint teas I’ve encountered. Most have had nothing but peppermint leaves but this Bigelow Tea features other ingredients, such as spearmint leaves, rose hips, and hibiscus that really give this mint tea a unique twang. It leaves your breath smelling fresh, and 3/12 dentists agree that Bigelow Mint Tea is an ideal substitute for brushing your teeth or flossing. In all seriousness, as someone who does not enjoy mint teas, this one was a pleasure to consume for today's Bigelow tea review.

Rating: B+

Dax: I like my mint tea a big stronger than most, and fortunately the slight dull flavor of Bigelow Mint Medley herb tea did the best it could. Extra This cup of tea was pretty basic, no highlight reel, no Stuart Scott commentary. I love fresh mint tea, so I can’t argue with Bigelow. They did add lemon peel and hibiscus to the peppermint leaves, giving it a crisp, tangy bite. A pretty decent mint tea, and I repeat the recommendation to enjoy a nice peppermint tea with spicy food, such as steak tacos with extra green sauce and jalapenos. Tasty way to end this tea review blog post.

Bigelow Loves That Lemon

Dax: Bigelow Tea seems to have something going for them. Their tea selection is vast, the packages come in colors only matched by the hippest Nikes, and the flavors are pronounced and recognizable. Their I Love Lemon herb tea was spotlighted on this afternoon’s menu, let’s dig in to this Bigelow Tea Review.

Bigelow Lemon tea starts out in a potent teabag that can freshen up the interior of any hoopty. The color of the tea resembles that of grapefruit juice, and smells of fine lemon zest. Lemon tea is great when accompanied by honey, so I abandoned my purist thoughts for the moment and put a few drops of some golden nectar that I had on reserve. Bigelow I Love Lemon is very tart, so honey couldn’t help me with that. I didn’t like the fact that Bigelow added lots of ingredients, like ascorbic acid, soy lecithin, and those pesky natural flavors. I guess without them the true essence of a lemon could not be emulated. A decent lemon tea.

Rating: B+

Mike: The aptly named Bigelow “I love Lemon” Herbal Tea is a medley of all things lemon and the taste of said citrus fruit overshadows all others. It is quite pleasant to your tungsten as it covers it with a lightly sour-sweet flavor. To the amateur tea drinker, this lemon tea might taste like nothing more than lemonade post-microwave, but a seasoned teasan like myself knows to look for the other flavors present in this lemon tea. For example, a faint backdrop of hibiscus and rose hips provide this herb tea with the appropriate canvas for painting that lemony goodness. You will feel like you’re on your veranda basking in a warm spring afternoon, while your spouse is out paying the bills.  Bigelow tea review complete.

Pomegranate Pizzazz from Bigelow - A Struggle and a Half

Bigelow Pomegranate PizzazzDax: Is it just me, or is tea another victim of this recent pomegranate craze? Pomegranate has become one of those fashionable fruits, similar to acai, that people need to have in everything. Plus it gives companies a reason to charge 6 bucks for some juice. Pomegranate Pizzazz herb tea from Bigelow is a good example of this cult-like following for pomegranate. This Bigelow tea bag smells like a granola bar, and the actual hot tea has a light pom touch to it with luscious vibes of apple. Natural flavors make a cameo in the herbal tea, as well as orange peel, licorice root, and hibiscus. David and Eunice Bigelow felt the need to add pomegranate and apple juice concentrate to the mix, much to my dismay. The pomegranate tea is kinda tasty and leaves a fresh flavor in your mouth, but once again, just another fruit tea on the shelf.

Rating: C+

Mike:  I generally like Bigelow Tea but they really screwed the pooch on this one. The primary problem with Bigelow Pomegranate Pizzazz is that it tastes artificial, like you’re drinking a sugary beverage created for kids. What makes some fruit tea delicious is when it captures that fruit’s essence and encapsulates it into a hot tea. This is definitely not the case when it comes to Pomegranate Tea from Bigelow, which does not resemble pomegranate neither in taste, nor in style.

The taste is overly sweet and slightly tart with an odd aftertaste. To rid myself of the aftertaste, I drank some more Bigelow Pomegranate but as was expected, it was like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. This was definitely not my cup of herbal tea.

Bigelow "Constant Comment" Tea with Orange

Bigelow-Constant-Comment-Tea
Dax: The first of our many Bigelow tea reviews has me asking, what is a "Constant Comment"? I have no clue. Maybe this Bigelow Tea with Orange is what everyone is talking about? Upon reading the back of the tea packet, Bigelow states that only the finest mountain-grown tea with golden orange rinds and blah blah blah. Well, this black tea is as ordinary as 2-ply. Sure I caught the jist of some orange in there, but this Constant Comment Tea would probably be better off as a car freshener. I mean the teabag smells like Escalade interior with an orange tree thing on the rearview. Not that I drive an Escalade or anything (I happen to push a 93 Honda Accord) but c'mon, this really does have that new car scent. Teas come and teas go; with the thousands of herbal teas out there, you gotta really step your game up to make the grade. Those natural flavors aren't doing much for the black tea. A decent tea, nothing special, but put a couple bags on the dashboard, you'll be surprised.
