Chai tea really grew in popularity in the early 2000s when everybody and their mothers was drinking this sweet, delicious concoction. In many languages, including Mike's native Russian, saying "chai tea" would be redundant because the word "chai" means "tea." So what exactly is chai tea or a chai tea latte as it is commonly referred to in the West? A chai tea latte is actually what is known as Masala Chai. This is South Indian tradition of mixing tea with sweeteners and spices and brewing it in milk and water. Chai Masala actually descends from ancient Indian medical recipes and did not become a commercial drink till the British began exploiting India as a source of tea in the 1830s. As with everything else, our Chai Tea Reviews will tell you which chai teas you should be downing, and which you should be avoiding like syphilis.
